Ok so I THOUGHT I had a good bible lesson book, but reading thru it more thoroughly trying to plug my lessons into my calendar... it really upset me. it's not that good at all. there's no order to any of it and it seems very beyond the age group they say it's intended for... sooo do ANY of you have something great that you could recommend? and something that is preferably not gonna cost me a bunch. I have exceeded my school budget for curriculum this year lol
I like Rainbow Lessons by Jane Britnell - it's for appx ages 2 thru 8. Personally, I prefer to use it on ages 3-6. There's an OT book and a NT book, each with 52 lessons, for a 2 year chronological course. You do the same lesson every day for a week so that they really learn it rather than just hearing it once and moving on. It becomes part of your daily routine, and they'll do a lot of memory work, too (a verse each week, names of the apostles, etc.).
I love the Jesus Storybook Bible. It isn't a curriculum, but too good to pass up. I would just add Bible story cartoons to fit in chronologically with the book.
Discipleland came out with some Children's Storybook Bible editions just this last year. I LOVE Discipleland's curriculum for churches, and these books are really nice looking. From their site, it looks like they're going to do with the storybooks what they do with their main curriculum and have online activities that tie in with the stories. http://awesomegodbible.com/ http://discipleland.com/
Have you looked at Positive Action for Christ? http://positiveaction.org/products#schoolcurriculum Christian Liberty has two: Studying God's Word book A which they published themselves, and Big Truths for Little Kids which is written by someone else but they sell it. http://www.christianlibertypress.com/ Rod & Staff has Bible as the B part of the ABC Readiness series. There's a storybook you read aloud, with discussion questions and memory verses, and a coloring book with one picture per story that's in the storybook. (60 stories total, 36 from OT and the rest from NT, with samples at http://rodandstaffbooks.com/list/Rod_and_Staff_Preschool/) Calvary Chapel Sunday School curriculum goes through the Bible in order, with worksheets. For Kindy, you could just print out the picture to color, and teach the lesson yourself using the indicated Scripture passages, which is what their own Sunday School teachers do (it's free for the printing at http://children.calvarychapel.com/site/curriculum.htm - 325 lessons).
I was just gonna recommend Positive Action for Christ! Super cute and pretty affordable. I did 1st when my dd was in K though. If you have a smart K you could prob do 1st. There are samples on their website. CLP is a good choice too, as she mentioned above!
ok well after reading this and researching and talking to my mama, i started looking through my books and remembered i have a huge set of bible story books. so what im gonna do is focus more on bible stories this year, use the stories in the order they are in the Bible, and discuss what, if any, moral is in the story, etc.. and then do crafts based on that story... i think it'll be fun and interesting for him
My family doesn't use any kind of "children's Bible", and have found it most profitable for children to read an unadulterated version of Scripture. Even if they can't understand everything (isn't that why the parents are there?), it is never a good idea to give them a dumbed down "bible" that omits the full council of God. I strongly recommend the KJV and believe it to be the best English translation, but am not in any way KJV Only. (Look up English Bible Translations by William Einwechter on SermonAudio.) Daily family worship is a must and I hold that to be far more important than any other schooling, as does Scripture. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. (Psalm 111:10, Proverbs 1:7 and 9:10) Hope this helps.
