Hey - everyone. Okay I have decided on my spelling. I should of asked this question too. What do you think about Abeka Lanuguage and math? I love Abeka math and language. The math can sometimes be a bit too much. I've learned to mark out the problems that I think dd can do without. I'm talking about all the repetitive adding, subtracting, division, & story problems. That gets to be too much on a day to day basis. (in the 3rd-5th gr.) I finally quit stressing myself out and realized dd didn't have to do EVERY problem on the page! I think it is a very thorough program though and plan to stick with Abeka on these subjects! I hope I helped and didn't confuse you!
I think that Abeka's language program, with their phonics, is one of the best and most thorough language programs I've seen. I like their math also. As I was looking through the 5th grade curriculum, I had to think to myself "how am I going to teach that? I don't even remember how to do it!" but their teachers' manuals are very thorough, which is nice. My younger dd, who is 4, picks up on things very quickly, and remembers everything. I'm thinking I may have to find something else for her eventually, because I don't think she'll like all the repitition. But, I do highly recommend Abeka. Go for it! Heidi
TammyLynn, I used Abeka for kindergarten. I loved the colorful workbooks. I had a very young five year old who was a perfectionist. She couldn't stand skipping a single problem. :shock: (In all honesty, she gets this from me ) I was so worried about not completing everything and the potential learning gaps; that we had to switch to something with less repetation. Today, I'm way, way more relaxed about homeschooling and could easily use the program. abcTammy
If your child does not like repetition and writing in general, don't go w/ Abekka Language. I like Abekks Math, but the Lang doesn't work for us. (Too much writing). I still don't have a great answer, but so far I like Winston Grammar, and we're going to try Strands. Leah
