This makes me realize how blessed I was when I needed day care. I was active duty Military when my 3 older ones were small. In one years time I went through 5 providers. This was not due to a problem with them, they just moved to another duty station. I was lucky that when one would find out they were leaving they would refer me to another. People were always impressed with how well behaved my kids were in public and I knew that part of that came from provider who didn't stick my child in a corner or in front of the tv all day but actually took them out and did things with them.

I am having a hard time finding what to say. Its hard to judge. (Really not my Job) I know why I did home daycare. It was a love! For my child and for other peoples childern. I am sad when I hear things that go on and see it in the news. I look at children as a gift. I believe in keeping an eye on all children and feel the need to keep them all safe. (If I'm paid or not) I think our local schools and centers are over crowded. I think their are good providers and good providers that get burnt out and don't know what to do. They go into this out of love and it is a stressful job. This is no excuss. There are also bad providers that have no right being provideres. I did daycare for 14 plus years and have had major burn out 2 times. I have then choosen to take a break (like now) and have trusted in the Lord to show me what I needed to do. I think there should be a class for providers to take that would help with stress and relizing when the stress is to much. I believe money is a big issue. Daycare is not cheep, but for the provider it is also not a money making job. I believe our goverment should step up and help support these centers and help them pay better, Educate better and protect Americas children. And if the center can not follow the rules they should be closed down. These children are our future.
As you can tell I have found words. And I could find more. I just know that children are precious and priceless.

I was appauled to read the story, one of the places we pass a lot, and my kids always wish they could go there because the play equipment though too small for them looked really fun and they had art projects hanging in the window........ I guess you just can't judge a book by its cover!

I think it's so sad that places like that are around! At my house we just add them to the family. Everything that we would do anyways we do there. When Sami does schoolwork the other kids color or do their homework and sometimes they ask me to let them do what Sami is doing... we just all do things together. I can't imagine allowing kids to just sit and watch TV all day. Or just leaving some kid naked because he was throwing up! Those people should have their license removed.

I was worried About all the inspections and figured they'd be really strict. I was surprized when the woman just came in and looked in the Fridge to see what the temp. was in there and didn't check a whole lot of anything else. If it's this easy to pass inspections then I see ZERO excuse for anyone failing one!

Ive always had great luck with in-home daycares..I am still great friends with Madison's first care provider, she is awesome! I call her if Im in a bind and happen to be downstate..I would trust her with my child no matter what. It saddens me to think of children being in a environment like described in that article..I know I would pull my child no matter what..I just cant imagine. I do however know that cockroaches are unreal and I dont think a atomic bomb would kill them all..after living in Tx for 3.5yrs before Madison was born.

I agree that roaches are hard to get rid of, But at the same time having them floating dead in standing water is bad. Why was the water left standing like that and how come no one had noticed a dead roach in it?

If someone is recieving THAT many violations they should not be operating. It is true that no matter how hard you try there is usually going to be a violation about something, however, 100 VIOLATIONS in a single visit?!?! Something is not right about that. If people can not operate professionaly then they shouldn't be operating to begin with. There are way too many people who own or operate centers that get into the career for the wrong reasons.

I don't know what else to say other than I am really sad for those children. I about cried when I read about the little boy in his diaper shivering on the floor. What if that was one of our children? It's these types of centers that give the really good ones a bad rap!
