What's the best way to do this? I'm searching online, but I must not be using the right wording, because the results are too broad. I've been trying by state. Should I try by publisher? Should I use the word 'curriculum fair', 'convention' or should I use the word 'homeschool' first?
Becky, I hope you don't mind me attaching a question to your thread.... Are all the "curriculum fairs" set up like conferences? or are there some that you can just walk through the doors of the conference hall and look at the books?

Brooke, Good question! I've been to hotel displays, fairs, conventions and conferences. Most have a time just to browse the books. Check out "the schedule" of any you plan to attend ahead of time. Tammy
Hey girls.... Becky, I did a search in Google when I couldn't remember the date of the conference. I typed *homeschool convention - Texas*. Actually I think it sent me somewhere HERE i didn't mark it, just read it. YOu might try the publisher, but GEEZE...a lot of them are going on right now and they are probably on the road a lot right now.Most big fairs are in the bigger cities where they are convention sites. Also like Tammy said HSLDA site is excellent. Click on your state, and best i can remember on the left side has a topic something like (conventions or groups,etc.). Brooke....not all homeschool conventions are conferences! Matter of fact,even at the conferences the vendors pay for booth space and WANT you there! The way most work is that you can choose to do ANYTHING you want to. The workshops are going on in another section while the vendors are working their booths! We chose to do curriculum all day and do workshops the next! Just look ahead and don't miss any good ones If you do miss one, they record our workshop sessions. So you can buy a cd or tape. Cd like 6$, I think the tape is cheaper. Thats what we did. They only had on Friday we wanted to hear, so we got the cd because we didn't want to stop our book looking The way our conference work is similar except they invited the whole family (not that the whole family isn't invited otherwise its just set up differently) to come and have like single's night for moms or dads (with kids hee hee). Dessert night and fellowship night! They have more activites to sign up with for a family. Teenagers get together,etc. The place that our conference will be at is close to the water. So a lot of water sports and theme parks. The conference is nice because you can do more things together! However, there are no HAVE TO's to the ones I've been to. DH and I prefer to go the homeschool fair/conventions to peruse curriculum and get the workshops in. Probably as the kiddos get older, they may want more fellowship with teenagers,etc. Tina
I just missed the last conference here in Charlotte They have another one coming in July though and I plan to go to that one. I found information on a store that sells curriculum (used) here. I would have never found it except it was advertised in my local groups newsletter. It's a childrens consignment shop....go figure
Ohio's conference is set up so that Thursday night JUST the Vendor's Hall is open. The first time I went was with a friend. I had NO IDEA what to expect! When we arrived, she asked me if it'd be OK if we spent the WHOLE THREE HOURS there. I'm thining , GEEZE!!! THREE HOURS!!! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO FOR THREE HOURS??? But she drove, so what could I say? Well, after three hours, I wasn't ready to leave yet, LOL! Many people bring their children, but not me! This year, DH is coming with me for the first time on Thursday!!! Friday and Saturday is the actual conference. The Vendor's Hall is still open, but you're trying to squeeze it in between workshops/speakers. They have special workshops for teens, but other than that children are not allowed to attend, except for nursing babies. Grandparents are allowed to attend for free; my mom has gone with me and loves it! Our Vender's Hall is NOT open to people that are not attending the conference.
Becky Your not too far from PA. The big hs convention is over, but it is held mothers day weekend every year. Just in case you want to mark your calander for next year. It is huge!! Tons of vendors and workshops. We go for the weekend just to be able to see it all. Most vendors offer discounts. It is held in Harrisburg (PA capital). Its really good. Crystal
I got an email the other day saying in SC I was on Father's Day weekend. I haven't never been but would like to go but Randall has to work that weekend.
Homeschool Fairs I would definitely go directly to the publishers to find out when they will be visiting your area. Abeka and Bjup are two that I have already been able to obtain this information from. maria
