Need homeschool info

Hi,
I am a veteran public school teacher and a writer. Homeschooling is just emerging in our school district so I am not well versed in it. I am curious to know if anyone homeschools other people's children for a fee. I'm not talking about sharing lessons or activities with another homeschooling family. I'm talking about "homeschooling" children for parents who must work outside their homes.

I write about alternative careers for teachers and wonder what types of paid employment might be available for teachers wanting to leave the classroom. Do any of you use a consultant to help you set up your program? I know that I have three years to go until retirement and would like to know what alternatives are available for me as well as for others.

Any opinions you can share with me or websites that that might discuss this aspect of teaching would be greatly appreciated.

Support would be great. I have heard tons of stories from people with special needs kids that could use a teacher's assistance from time to time (speech therapy, behaviour ideas, etc.).

Tutoring in subjects that parents are not well versed in would also be a thought.

We have a childcare resource centre in my community with a lending library of themed toy boxes, books, and other things for pre-school use, along with a referral service (childcare providers matched to parents), and training co-ordination. Could that be a possibility, ECE and homeschooling?

Test supervision for distance students?

Contact your local HS support group or co-op. They may have great ideas, and may welcome a volunteer to help with co-ordinating things. An experience like that would give you so many ideas I am sure.

 

consultants

I have heard more of consultants in the last 3 years since CHARTER schools have been springing up. The charters use consultants to push a faculty in the direction they need to be on. Allowing for each individual teacher's strenghts, the consultants have been looking for special traits to assist in 'hiring'.

I want OUT of the classroom and think of workshops I attended that would be awesome to 'create and implement my own program to go to school sites and demonstrate. I have a strong influence of Montessori and would love to create a program called Traditional ALA Montessori which would focus on teachers expectations and the ideologies of how the teachers can facilitate their classrooms and make materials that they can go back and implement. Also, hopefully to impact these teachers to make changes in their 'attitudes' towards their job and thier role in the classroom. Amanda has another key idea for you, using the computer to create an 'online teacher resource business'. Anyone interested, I would gladly partake
