I bought a violin for the younger children today. I got it used off of Craiglists. (and the other family were homeschoolers too, which I actually guessed because who else has small instruments as our schools do not do teach instruments at that young of an age).

OK..soo.....see the problem? Just think...a violin in the hands of a 5 yr old!!! The moment he started playing, I had flashbacks to DD's early playing days. My ears hurt! Not to mention that peircing up the spine nails-on-the-chalkboard feeling. Perhaps next time, I will think first, LOL.

My dd started suzuki violin at 4 and in only a couple of lessons went from sounding like feral cats violently mating to recognizable pieces of music. It was worth the bottle of ibuprofen I had to take while she first playing. When it gets really unbearable just break out the headphones and listen to "real" music ;)

    Well, it could be worse.......

You could've been like me and bought your talented son a full set of drums!

Even though I loaded up on the tylenol for me, I know it was the right decision since from the first time of him picking up those sticks you can just HEAR his natural talent.

    Sigh.....earplugs maybe?
