Question: How do you grade your child's PE? This is for high school credits. I would appreciate some help with this. Thanks.
I grade it pass/fail. Rachael took part in soccer, and Faythe does horseback riding. So they get .5 for each semester they participate.
We did 2 credits of health & physical education. All of the public and private school kids get letter grades, so I gave letter grades too.
If I were making a transcript, pass fail. Private schools here usually have kids do a sport instead of a PE class. Then, if you finish X hours of the sport, then you can a credit and it is pass fail. I think it is actually done in 1/2 credit increments. Doesn't matter I guess. I think 45 hours might be a half credit. My children did private school for a little while in high school (my older ones).
If I'm truthful...and I had to put a PE grade on my kids report card...I'd put an "A" down and wouldn't give it a second thought. Who cares? Colleges don't. And if they DO care...maybe they'll like an "A" better than pass/fail? Public school grades PE, so we might as well, IMO. The big skills they're getting graded on...are cooperation, sportsmanship, following directions, hygiene, safety and participation. If your kid has those in the bag...I say give them an A. If you want to make it look extra legit, have your kid take a CPR class and earn CPR or Lifeguard certification. It looks great on a transcript and it's a great life skill to possess.
I thought I would let her walk, wii games, and any other physical activity I could think of. If she does them, she passes the class.
Since we are not moving to a nicer area I will have to homeschool High School. I will count what ever my daughter's current sport sign up and her YMCA participation as her HS PE. I'm sure I'd give her an A if they want letter grades since she does try her hardest while playing a sport and she enjoys going to the YMCA fitness classes.
