So....I had toothache. I was hoping and praying it go away on it's own. We're in the process of slowly getting the boys' teeth fixed and I plan on having ALL my teeth pulled and getting dentures with our tax refund so I hated to spend money on a dentist visit to pull ONE tooth when financially things are so tight right now trying to get both the kids teeth fixed, birthday next month, Christmas, etc...

I let it go too long I suppose...it was abscessed. So by the time I decided to go to the dentist the infection was really bad and had spread to my jaw bone. Because of that I was given a really strong antibiotic with some really serious possible side effects. I was uneasy about taking it from day 1, but...I figured it was just because I hate pills.

I may now have one of those serious "If you experience any of these side effects, discontinue the drug and contact your doctor immediately" side effects.

The side effect is "Usual bleeding from your nose, mouth, vagina or rectum"

In the past 2 1/2 years I've had 2 periods and they were back to back 6 months ago or so-so.....at this point I'd say having periods aren't really a normal thing for me. So I don't know if this is just my hormones being wonky and 'normal' vaginal bleeding or if it's one of those serious side effects of the antibiotic.

I mean statistically speaking, I'd say it's probably highly unlikely that I started my period on day 6 of a 7 day treatment of a drug that has a side effect of vaginal bleeding, right?

And of course the dentist can't check out my side effect-her chair is set up to work on the other end :D

So in an effort to try and save money, my toothache has resulted in me having to make an appointment with a 2nd doctor, an OB-GYN!!

Please pray 1-this is just my wonky hormones and not a serious side effect 2-we have the money for all these dentist and doctor appointments and Thing2's Birthday next month and Christmas....

Did you finish the antibiotics, and did the "side-effect" stop when the med stopped? The way my brain works, I'd be more likely to wait and see (and then it would turn out to be serious).

Of course you're covered in prayer, sweetie! God will provide somehow for everything!

I just started bleeding today-today would have been my last day of treatment so I did not take the last 4 pills.

But I'm not sure about the side effects stopping as the warning label said, one side effect may occurs MONTHS AFTER STOPPING THE MEDICATION!

    WOW. Just WOW. MONTHS after???
And yet they deny that baby vaccinations could NOT be related to health problems that start two weeks after a vax...

What did they give you for an antibiotic? Sounds nasty.

I (literally) feel your (tooth/jaw) pain and it isn't fun. I thank God that I didn't have to deal with an abscess. Mine was just a matter of having neglected to go for the regular cleanings (here I thought because I brush my teeth ALL THE TIME and thought that would be sufficient... yeah right). Before I went in, I figured they would tell me they would need to pull all of mine and go for dentures.... all they needed was a good cleaning/scaling. I have lost the bottom molars on both sides of my mouth now and will have to be fitted for a partial but I knew that a month ago.

All this to say, I hope that you have the same success and don't have to have them all pulled.

    Praying for you

On the bright side you might be glad your tooth pain sent you to the dentist. The bacteria in jaw absesses can lead to heart valve deterioration.

I hope that maybe this is a regular period and not a side effect..

I pray that your health will be restored soon.

Thank you ladies. I have an almost constant straight line of varying degrees of discomfort/pain down the middle of my abdomen from the combination of the nausea & diarrhea side effects of the pills then the menstrual cramps.

Some atibiotics can wreck your system. Be sure to take some acidophilus or eat yogurt the next several days after the antibiotics end to avoid the yeast infections that may be in your future.

With what you described I would not be sure if I had side effects or a normal period. LOL.

Mine were so bad I used to sit on the throne with a bucket in my lap, while having hot sweats and cold chills. This lasted on and off for a few hours then I would get even more pain more intence chills an sweats, and get very hyper sensitive to light and sound. I could not get comfortable and would stay low, because at some point I would pass out with a sheet or towel over my shoulders and wake up soaking wet. Oh the joy. I used to hgave to take cover when I knew I had started. I would have to get home from school, or work asap.

I once had a jerk boss that would not let me get to my bike in the locked storage area and leave work. I told him it would not be pretty if I stayed, but that If I stayed, I would stay until my scheduled time was over, regardless of how little I got done. I knew at some opint I would be too week to ride 8 miles home, and could get a car ride once it was after 4. He would not let me leave. I stood behind the counter of the fastfood cash register/counter with a bucket unter my arm sweating profusely and shuddering intermittantly, hoping that the bathroom would stay available as needed. Customers were freaked. At point someone I knew well enough to trust with giving me a ride came through and I disappeared. Lots of folks got to see what a jerk that guy was in the mean time.

Hopefully after the antibiotics are through you will feel relief from all of this.

I will pray that your health and finances will be blessed so you can pursue your dental work further.
