Does anyone else ever have trouble reaching this site? I had this trouble before, once in awhile. No matter how many times I hit refresh I cannot get this site to come up. I can't get linked here, either. No other site, just this one.
Another wacky thing- the pencils to the left of the forums are always blue, as though there are no new posts. I have started taking notice of the dates now.
My husband, the computer geek, swears he's not doing anything new. He did say the Panda antivirus was interacting with the Service pack 2 , so maybe that's it- a computer thing i wouldn't understand!!

No from time to time I have trouble getting on. I to hit refresh and nothing. So, I just go and come back somethings it's a day or two before I can get on. I don't know why.

    becky,
It could be a cookie problem... Do you have cookies disabled? Maybe your cookie is damaged. ????? Try using the Log out link, then log in again. If you still have problems, you could try deleting your cookies and logging in again.

    I'm just making guesses. :)

I talked to you about this before.
The site just will not come up. I get 'cannot find server'.
I can get to any other site, including atoz, but not here.
It's not so often, but it's agravating when it does happen.

It happens to me, too. I can't even click on the links in the emails I get to topics I'm involved in. Sometimes they work, other times they don't. I get the 'cannot find server' message as well on both my own computer and the one in the classroom.

I assumed that the site's server was 'off' during what would be early hours of the day for those of you in middle-western time zones. I'm in the Atlantic time zone, so when it's 8 am for me, it's snoozy time for most of you !!! Today, I couldn't view this site until supper hour here.

The server is up 24 hours a day... no down time ... I have never encountered this problem, so I am unsure how to troubleshoot it. The only things I can think of is that it involves either 1) cookies 2) caching 3) virus/worm interference

I had trouble again today, almost identical to Kathe.
My husband is all into computers and he says it's the site.
He can't tell what the specific problem is, but it's definitely the site.
When homeschoolspot is down, we can access all the other places we look up.
I also can't get here through email notifications. Nor through atoz, or even through my history.
I made this site my homepage, so I can see right away when it's down.

Amanda- would it help you if we all posted when this happens? Maybe you would see a pattern or 'something' that might help you pinpoint the problem.

Thanks for checking that setting.... Did you check what was in the browser window, or did you go into Tools > Internet Options? I just want to be sure because even if you have homeschoolspot.com in that setting, when you visit the site, it automatically updates it to include the www.

I realize you are having the problem with this site only, which is why I continue to suggest it is cookie or caching issues. The other side of the issue is that it doesn't happen to everyone, so it's hard to determine how to avoid the conflict.

Not to confuse things, but I do know it's not a cookies/caching/browser thing ... at least not in my case.

There's no explanation for why it is inaccessible for the bulk of a morning or even the day, but eventually is accessible later in the day, or after a day or so.

I'm not worried about it ... as long as people realize if I don't reply to something you've said directly to me, or to a private message, maybe you should email me after 12-24 hours because likely I can't get in.

Incidentally, even at some of our former locations, I found the same thing although not as frequently. Net traffic can sometimes be the culprit, like on the weekend or something; but as for my morning troubles, I'm not sure what the culprit is. :?:

We can also rule out that the site is not down. :) It's on the same server as the atoz forums and the server has not been down for almost a year. If it does go down, I am the one who is responsible for bringing it back up, so I can't miss it. I can also view the statistics and see when a site is not accessible.

I'll keep looking to see if I can find any other ideas, but with all the different variables that can exist on different systems, it's hard to narrow down what exactly is causing it.

If you encounter the "page cannot be displayed" error again, I have an idea that will help me gather more details about your specific case. Please do this:

    1) Press the Print Screen button
    2) Open Word Pad, by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > Word Pad
    3) Use the paste command - Ctrl+V is the shortcut
    4) Save the file
    5) Send an email to amanda@atozteacherstuff.com with that file attached
