Ok, first I will say that I am WAY to practical to be bothered with fashion and name brands. I don't understand the fuss over EXPENSIVE name brand purses.

Most the ones I see look very basic with letters on them to let everyone know what name brand you have bought. My niece just recently bought herself a Michael Kors (spelling?) purse that cost over $500.

Is it just me or is a purse ever really worth that much?

I bought a purse over 3 years ago (maybe 4) that accommodates my every need in a purse for under $20. It is black- so it goes with everything (at least in my opinion). Until it falls apart, I will use it and enjoy it.

Do the purses that cost hundreds of dollars last a lifetime with a guarantee of no holes and no tears? Do they organize your stuff for you so all you have to do is throw stuff inside and voila? If not, I don't want one. ;)

p.s. Here is the crazy thing. I LOVE the show Project Runway. I started watching maybe season 2 or 3 and have been hooked ever since. I don't always understand the perspective on fashion. I think it has to do with creating things with fabric since I love fabric (for quilting) and the different personalities and such. I would love it if they could come up with a quilting reality show.

When I worked at the hospital, all the nurses had "the latest purse", and some even had new purses every week or two weeks that were UBER expensive. Like...feed my family for 2 months expensive. I never got it. I tried really hard to carry a purse with me ALWAYS but I always forgot it somewhere.

I bought an owl bag a year or two ago at Target for $25, and I use it as a cute bag/diaper bag/purse. It works for me. All of my driving things (ID and Insurance and so forth) are in my van and they never leave the van (I would forget them at home, then get stopped or like last time I would get into an accident and not have it). Being fashion forward has never been my maion motivation. Paying bills is. lol

I don't understand it either. I'm not about to pay hundreds of dollars on a bag. I wouldn't even if I could afford to.

My perfect purse would be a small messenger bag. It would be a color that went with everything in my extremely casual wardrobe. I have been looking for a few months and hope to find one I like soon. Right now I usually stick my phone, license, and money in one pocket and my keys in another.

I have a good number of friends that buy expensive purses. They make all kinds of excuses about why they spend so much on them. But what it really comes down to is they want to look the part (like they have money). I have even had one friend that came right out and said, "I don't want to look poor." They are for the most part the same people that buy expensive clothes, drive expensive cars, and complain all the time that they don't have money.

I love purses and bags but cry at the thought of spending more than $30.

I have a lovely purse and wallet that dh bought me years ago in what we call our "previous life of way more money than we make now". Honestly, I just hate carrying a purse around. Yes, it is a nice expensive purse, but I can't stand to carry it, so it sits at home. I put money/ID in one pocket and phone in another. That is what is comfortable for me.

I bought a purse a few years ago for I think $20 because it was big enough it could double for "nice" looking diaper bag if it had to. Other than that I haven't owned a purse in um....15 years? I did sink a whopping .41 cents into a $150 diaper bag though (my brother gave me a gift card to amazon so it covered the rest) and I will NEVER regret it! It has gone through 2.5 kids and it still looks brand new PLUS I can throw it in the washer! That was the best "purse" I have ever purchased.

I really don't understand the "must have an expensive purse" thing.

I have never understood spending more than $20 on a purse, but then again, if I had the money, I might not find it so weird.
Still, I will say that the expensive purses are truly well made compared to the ones purchased at Walmart. Handsome was adding on to a Brighton (sp?) purse manufacturing building in Los Angeles where they make specialty lines. I can't think of the name of the line off the top of my head, but once it hit the store, it was going to sell for about $600 each in department stores and specialty stores throughout Los Angeles and Hollywood. He said it was amazing to see the workmanship that went into the purse. It was made of some type of skin and was guaranteed to never break or tear. If the stitching was not correct, or if the seams were not where they should be, they couldn't sell the purse. After the sewing was complete, they would place what looked like heavy weights in the bags, and then place them on a machine that would swing them around to move like a person to make sure it could endure the most abuse a purse can take, with more weight than a person would usually carry in a purse. If I remember correctly, the weights were a total of 60 lbs. If it tore, which he never saw it happen, then obviously it wouldn't be sold. So he said they were well made, but a waste of money considering that most women do not use their purses for a lifetime, and these purses were made to last a lifetime. Handsome said that these purses were made as well as quality leather tool belts. They could take abuse and then some! lol

I hate purses. I don't carry one, won't carry one, if it doesn't fit in my pocket I don't need it.

If we go somewhere where we will spend the day out and about I take a backpack to throw what we may need in (sun block, tissues, a few drinks, some snacks for the kids, etc) and I have space to carry anything we may buy while out.

Em doesn't like purses either, or backpacks, or fanny packs. I make her carry a purse, as much as she can't stand it. At one time, she would stick her inhaler in one pocket, her wallet in another, and a couple pads in another. The inhaler kept falling out and she ended up loosing it a few times. Finally, I told her that she had to carry a purse or I was going to start making her come up with $60 a pop to replace her inhaler. Plus, I wasn't too keen on pads in her pockets, even though, for the most part, they weren't obvious. Still, that was the least of my worries. I refused to buy another inhaler if she couldn't keep it in her pocket. One time, her trakphone (sp?) fell out of her pocket at Disneyland. I told her to not put it in her pocket. She did. Lucky for her somebody turned it in because she would have to replace that, too. We bought it so she could call us to pick her up from lessons, or activities, if she got out early. So she carries a purse now, but dislikes anything sitting on her shoulder.

I SO could have written this! I don't remember how old the purse I now have, is. I will carry it until it absolutely falls apart. It's a black leather shoulder bag, with a cloth lining, with a zip compartment in the middle, and a compartment with magnetic snap on each side. There's a zip pocket on the front, a small slip-in pocket, and a pocket with magnetic snap (presumably for a cell phone, but mine is too wide to fit). There is an open pocket and a zip pocket in the cloth lining, too. A place for everything! I have a magnetic-close cell phone pocket attached to the hardware on one side of the handle with a snaphook, and my keyring attached to the hardware on the other side of the handle with a splitring so I absolutely cannot lose them. I HAVE to clean it out periodically, because it gets so heavy it gives me a backache (mostly coins I get in change). When I find one I really like (I'm picky! but I hate spending more than $20), I should buy two, so I'll have one when the one finally gives out...

I only carry a cheap purse when the kids are with me. Otherwise, if it doesn't fit in my jean pockets, I don't need it. Since I wear "mom jeans", they hold quite a bit. LOL!

    I don't get it either.

I couldn't stand purses, till I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and needed to keep my insulin with me. Before that I only used a wallet in my pocket!

After diabetes, the best option for me was a mini back pack....at around the age of 30 I decided I looked rather juvenile with a pink mini back pack. (although I only bought quality ones from like back packing/camping stores, and actually I Think they cost more then my now purse does!).

So I decided to go shopping. I KNEW I was NOT going to be a 500 plus dollar purse girl. But, I did want a GOOD purse. I went to Macy's or Penny's can't remember which (this is right before I turned 30, I'm now almost 40!). And I looked for a GOOD purse. Also I didn't want too big, just small to medium small (not even true medium), I think I have a medium small purse, I needed to be able to fit my insulin pack in there. Any way, it's red leather, VERY good quality. And I want to say I spent 60 dollars on it, but it may of been 20...I know it was on SALE. lol So I can't remember if it was 60 and marked down to 20, or if it was more, and marked down to 60. But, I do know it still looks good, and I didn't spend too much on it. And I've had it for a decade! lol I still leave it at home as much as possible, and only use it if I HAVE to. lol

BTW, do you ever feel like asking the ones who buy purses, clothing, etc with the names all over them or any where visible on them, how much they are being paid for advertising the brand? They should realize, instead of making them look not poor, they look stupid for giving a big company FREE advertisement, that in the day they would have to pay for to put on a billboard, etc.

A lady at our church bought a very expensive purse. It was very pretty. Black, some type of skin, really well made, just a nice purse. Anyway, after she carried it she didn't like it and offered it for sale on Facebook. My daughter saw it and bought it for much less than the lady paid. My daughter carried it a couple of times and said it was too dressy for work and she was going to put it up on Facebook again because she would never use it . This time she was asking $125.00 for it. I said I bet she would sell it quickly because it was so pretty. She said since I liked it she was going to give it to me. I said no way but she insisted she wanted me to keep it so I now have one expensive bag that I use when I have to really dress up. I would never have bought it for myself though!

I don't understand that either.. Why spend $500 on something when you can spend $20 and it serve the same purpose.. I'm NOT into fashion.. I honestly have 3 shirts and 2 pairs of shorts that I rotate through and constantly wash.. I will wear them until they wear out.. Which won't be too long at this point.. LOL.. My purse I have now came from CATO and I paid $20.. The straps are worn out and the button closure is broken.. I'm gonna use it until it literally falls apart.. That's just how this mama rolls.. I used to NEVER carry a purse, but once I had kids I would use my purse to carry their diapers and such when we went to the store.. Now I feel naked without mine.. BUT it has to be one that will go over my shoulder.. No hand bags for me..

I do carry a purse, but not expensive ones! I love bags, but can't afford to support that habit! Name brands are pointless to me. I just want one that looks good and the price is cheap (under $20)! I do tend to put lots of stuff in my purse. We travel often for swim meets, and I don't like to switch bags for them. I just make sure my purse (more like a satchel) will fit Sharpies, highlighters, heat sheets (program of sorts), camera, and a bottle of water along with the usual purse stuff.

I remember a scene from one of the Hannibal movies where the female detective visits Hannibal in prision to get his insight on another killer.

She walks down the corridor and he comments on her perfume etc. He notices her expensive hand bag and makes a statement like

expensive purse and perfume but still wearing the cheap shoes an clothes, trash with a bit of class heh.

I always wonder what girls think when they are wearing 15.00 flip flops and carrying one of those bags. What amazes me is when they continue to wear a hair scrungie on their wrist while carrying the bag.

Just think, someday they will have machines to tattoo like a printer on your skin and their will be name brand tattoos people can through money at.
