Ok need help. Trying to find some good reading books/series books for my son who is in 3rd grade. He isn't a big reader so if I can find a series book that he loves I am sure he will read more. Any suggestions???

If you're not looking for classic literature but just something that will get him reading, you might look at the A to Z Mysteries series. My son enjoyed reading those.

My 3rd grader likes Narnia & Hank the Cow Dog. You might try Magic Tree House too.

The librarian suggested Poppy by Avi. It's the first in a series about a little mouse. Phillip REALLY enjoyed them!!!

I also STRONGLY reccomend The Mad Scientist Club. These are a collection of short stories written in the 50's and 60's, first published in Boy's Life Magazine. (That's the magazine all the Boy Scouts read). My brother got it, and I always read it cover-to-cover. You may have to get it inter-library loan, but it's WELL worth it!!!

Totally agree with A to Z mysteries, my son LOVES them (and he's in 6th grade now! I still let him read them, even though they're more a 2nd, 3rd grade reading level!). Flat Stanley. Horrible Harry. hank the Cowdog. Hans Zipper. Geronimo Stilton. Hmmmmmmmm.....

My 3rd grader loves to read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series (well, she loves the movies too). :D

Also the old Hardy Boys, Encyclopedia Brown, The Boxcar Children.

Tales of a Fourth grade nothing and the rest of teh Fudge series by Judy Blume. I think there's 5 books total. My daughter and I just finished the first, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Each chapter is really it's own little story but they kinda go together at the same time. They are about a boy and his younger brother. Also Magic Treehouse, Boxcar Children, Diary of a wimpy kid, Bad Kitty come to mind. Non fiction on a subject he likes may be great too. My daughter has a kid on the bus that's in second grade but he will read anything and everything about the Titanic and he's a second grader. Even dressed as teh captain of the Titanic for Halloween at school since it had to be a historical or storybook character. That might be something to look into is nonfiction. We read anything and everything about animals, expecially cats, dogs, horses, wild animals, and endangered animal(I know doesn't leave much not read about with animals)
