Jen, that's great! I called Carl in from getting ready for work to watch! But did you notice, on another YouTube at the side, that she's been forced off the air? (I've never heard of her, btw!)

Oh look! All the smart people are rich! Look at us loser smart people who choose to stay at home - it is a sign of our ignorance!

This was great. I think I'll watch it with DH for our 'date night' movie tonight, LOL. Thanks for posting!

Hee Hee! I usually dislike Laura Ingraham and Fox news, but that was a good one! That guy was condescending to think that smart people should be rich enough to send their kids to private schools. What horrid statements that guy made! Yikes!

THIS RIGHT HERE is why I do not care for SOCIALIST leanings in government...

Because then "THEY" tell you HOW to live, more and more as they take over....

Because we are the unwashed masses and they know better.....

    Anyone remember THIS video.....

    Where a major Teachers Union wants the government to create more and more schools that turn oward 24 hour care of children, because;
    (Paraphrased)
    1. Children are not being fed properly.
    2. They have to return to the ignorant and basically nasty homes each day.
    3. They do not have the best health care.
    4. They are exposed to their families "Issues".
    5. When they return to class each day, the teachers have to undo all that bad...

    See it here...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8Uoz0ee0Ys

Of course WE know those are PARENTING ISSUES.. But.... Anyone remember "Womb to the Tomb"???

I would rather be wild and free.

I don't agree with everything that the teachers' union does.
I don't like the idea of 24 hr. child care and other such things. I don't like the fact that early education is promoted so heavily and that the system has pushed down it's curricula to earlier and earlier ages.

My father is a member of the teachers' union and has been a public school teacher for 36+ years. He doesn't agree with his own union many times either. My family growing up lived on a single income teacher's salary and I saw how hard my father worked for how very little he was paid. We were poor compared to our neighbor's whose fathers' had factory jobs and excavating jobs.

I think most teachers are probably good and have the students' best interest at heart. Of course, there are those horrible teachers out there too. I think the good teachers are grossly underpaid and overworked.

Anyway, my father has seen many kids come from really crappy home lives. If the kids go to school, it is probably a better situation then if they are out in the streets. I also know a lady at my church who teaches special ed. at a local elementary school. She has to teach the kids grooming skills (combing hair, brushing teeth, washing face) because no one is teaching them at home and they come in dirty or not knowing what to do. She says sometimes her students are trying to take care of their parents instead of being kids. There are really horrible situations out there and I am glad that there are people trying to help.

With all that said I hated having my child's former public school tell me what they thought was good for my son and my family. It was like they were trying to take control of many aspects of our family life. I think that had a lot to do with the principal of the school though. I'm sure that there are many people in public education that are not like what I encountered.

Oh, my! He's from my general area!!! No wonder Westerville schools have a reputation of being "cutting edge" schools! (In other words, if it's "new" and "innovative", they must try it, just in case it might actually benefit one or two chidlren!)

WOW!!! This guy is simply SCARY!!! I mean, from what I read of his web site, if you pay him enough during a custody battle, he'll pretty much go to court and tell why your ex's school isn't good enough for the kid, and how it will ruin the child for life, etc. And, because he's a self-declared "expert", the courts actually believe him! He's even more arrogant than he came across on the video!!!

    Agreed!
I also hate that they took away the teacher's powers of control out of the classroom. Students usd to respect teacher's but now they know they can get away with anything because the teacher has had their legs cut out from underneath them.

Right, BUT! This is a PARENTING issue and NOT an educational choice issue.

    OFTEN, the two are intertwined...
And they are related, but not the same thing.

I'm late but I didn't really care for that interview. I really hate that style when the reporter attacks the interviewee and doesn't let them have a word in edgewise. Sure the interviewee got snarky to but the reporter set the tone.

I don't care what the tone is.
I was happy to see her hold his comments to the light, immediately.

That was not just popcorn entertainment, that was toffee-popcorn-dipped-in-chocolate entertainment.

My dh and I had a discussion about it afterwards. There was a link that popped up that stated the reporter was "kicked off the air" (it was an interview with Bill O'Reilly). He said - very sarcastically - that it was probably because she injected her PoV into the interview (which I will agree is not good reporting tactics). My also-sarcastic response, knowing dh and I were on the same wavelength, was "and, of course, the media never interjects their perspective but always reports unbiased!"

We agreed it was nice to see the media slanted towards what we believe rather than away from it, for rare once, LOL.

Did you notice how he tried to change the subject when he thought he was losing the debate. He went from insulting parents for homeschooling to stating, " I'm driving down the road the other day, and these people are smoking in the car with their children." Ok! What does that have to do with parents homeschooling their children. Did the parents stick their head out the window and yell, "Hey, I homeschool!" Wow! Forgive me, but his Phd must stand for "Pig-headed-doctor."
