Has anyone watched the RV movie with Robin Williams? We finally watched it last night. It's pretty silly, but I liked that they did actually show homeschooling in a positive light---the homeschooled kids were shown to be smart and advanced in their schooling!
We saw it and thought it was cute. I have heard others say they didn't like the way hsers are portrayed in this movie, but, I thought it showed them to be as you said, smart and advanced!
The overall idea was that the one family didn't like the rv family and thought they were strange. But in the long-run, when they DID mention them homeschooling, it was when they said how advanced they were, then in the end, the other family Robin Williams family---I forget names already!) wanted to rv and homeschool too!
As an RVer and a HSer, we really liked this film. Some of the stuff they showed was over the top, but quite funny and overall a good message.
I agree with timkelmom as a RVer and Hser it is a very funny fun. Some of the stuff no way, but it's cute we all need a good laugh.
If we could afford it I would like to have an RV and travel with the kids. I would like to be able to see the country and visit with some of you guys. Watch out Kris. If I win the lottery you might be first! My only nephew IS moving to Texas this month! Oh, I guess you have to buy a lottery ticket to win it don't you? Rats!
Yea! Beth that is what they keep telling me. I keep looking on the ground hoping to find something there. LOL Ok Beth, you come on down. The girls are trying to talk daddy into getting a bigger RV and travel more. His boss would love that.
Which family did you think hers was the model for? I did think of you guys, timkelmom and Kris! I sure wouldn't mind doing that, at least for a month or so! We could even work up a song like the one family did, only I don't yodel, and I don't look like that mom either!
Well Jackie and Deena, I could be any one of families. But, I don't sing. Maybe we can think of something else to do. We are funny with out singing. Jackie, we are a good model for the movie we will come by your house when we are filming the next one and stay by your camper and get your family in it.
Another movie I've just got to see, thanks to the forum!! (I'm still waiting for "Night at the Museum" to hit the cheapie theatre!!). And the RVing topic. . . .you've all got me dreaming again!! The RV show was at the I-X center in Cleveland this past week and I sooo wanted to go just to dream a bit, but DH said "No". This week we'll hit the boat show, though, for the same reason--a little bit of dreaming. (Funny how after a decade of marriage and 5 kids, those mutual dreams can be oh, so romantic!!) And hey, I suppose boating aroung the globe could be a really cool HS experience, too. That does it-- I'm definitely buying a lotto ticket this week!!
I'll stick to dreaming about the RV. I get sea sick. Don't laugh, it's true. Can't even ride in a car and read. Hmmm I guess we won't homeschool and ride at the same time when I win the lottery. Oh well, we will have to catch up on our work when we get to Kris's house.
We've actually considered this. Once the kids are off to college or on their own, we would like to spend an extended time sailing. My DH knows how to sail although buying a boat might be an issue. It a dream of ours. We don't identify with either of those families in the movie although I think meeting either one on the road would be fun.
Jackie, I think Dr. Phili would have fun was us. Deena, you have to come too. Beth, don't worry about the school work we will do it together like a co-op the children will have fun. I know a family in our hs group who left in May on a 40 foot sail boat with 3 children ages 12, 8, 3 years old to sail around the world.
I'm like Beth, I get seasick and car sick. But i only get carsick if I'm in a back seat. I usually drive to avoid that! Kris, I'm there! WOuldn't that be fun to have a group that rv'd together and traveled places and co-op'd the homeschooling?! FUN!
They would end up making another movie and Dr. Phil would just be shaking his head and saying how's that working for ya. Kris, Can the first lesson be a field trip to the beach? We are having a cold windy day here and I hate cold weather!
We will have to visit each state. We could easily start in Hawaii, but could we take the RVs there? If not, maybe Florida. Of course, we would have to explore Disney World, and think of the education at Epcot!!! My parents just got a place at the Word of Life Conference Center in Florida. I bet the conference center would LOVE to allow us to park our RV's there while we explored their state!!!
