I think it is a bum deal when you purchase something and don't realize you can't resell it...so I thought we could make a list of known do not resell curriculum...

These are the ones I know of...
    1.Calvert
    2. Winter's Promise
    3. SOS

If anyone knows of more, we can add to the list.

I dont' have any more to add, but I really think I would steer clear of any "no resale" curriculums.

Think about it.. they obviously are only thinking about their own money making and not the homeschooling families that they are suposedly out there to help. Most of us are one income families, and not all of us have a Dr or lawyer's wages as our income amount. If they can't respect that we struggle financially to be able to provide the best education for our children, then I can't respect them enough to use their curriculum.

That is why I thought the list would help. There is always so much fine print and some of them aren't in BIG, BOLD letters that you can't resell. It is more hidden until it is too late and you have already purchased.

I know there is a list on the homeschoolclassifieds site.

Aren't the DIVE cds on the no resale list?

    Found another one...

Can I re-sell my copy of Tapestry DE?

No. Resale of Tapestry DE is a violation of the End User License Agreement.

I really let Rosetta Stone have it over this. I mean I guess I see their point and this is the standard with software, but it ticks me off anyway. You can get around it if you keep your original order info and give it to the person you sell it to. They will give you a new reg code/key.

I sold my entire Calvert curriculum. Manuals, books and all. I just did it privately and not threw their site. It cost a lot of money. I feel like if I paid all that money for it then it’s mine to do as I please, but that's just me.

Calvert doesn't even want you to give it away.

My Father's World (just the teacher's manual and student sheets)...everything else is a gathering of stuff. Which is why I don't mind too much. In reality, the manuals are used again with subsequent children when you reach the cycle again.

Sonlight Instructor Guides - of course, I can't find confirmation of this, only what I've been told.

I want to add that I sold my Calvert for cheap to help a family who couldn’t afford to HS. I only got like 50 bucks for it. She insisted, but someone did offer me $500 for it.

Now the Sonlight IG's are resale able. I have seen lots and lots of SOS and rosetta stone for sale.

Now I thought that homeschoolclassifieds only post them as do not sales because of their no cd/dvd selling policy.

This is what homeschool classifieds has on their site
You can find it on their FAQ's page under What is your policy on listing material with resale/transfer restrictions?

Huh. I bought my Rosetta Stone used.

OK, to be fair, I can understand that they don't want you installing something on a computer then passing it on to friends who installs it and passes it on. So now there are three people using it on three computers at the same time (not the same family). That wouldn't be right. I mean, if you were to lend a text book out to a friend, you wouldn't have it anymore to use. That's the difference.

Well Jackie I do see your point. But then there is the ones who buy it find out it is not for them and what they are stuck with it? Also things like BJU and Calvert those are books right?

The way I see it is if I buy it, it is mine to do as I please.

I don't buy Calvert or BJU, so I don't know. However, I feel that if I buy a book, I have the right to do whatever I wish with it (short of copying it, etc.).

I don't understand. Trust me, I am a HUGE advocate of copywrite law. I will NOT break those laws. They are sacred to me. But text books are sold and resold and resold in public schools and in colleges. I do understand the software issues, but not textbooks.

From what I understand, the textbooks are resalable, it is the instructor's/teacher's/parent's manuals that are not. They are the most expensive thing about most curriculum and Winter Promise, MFW, BJU, Calvert, and some others specifically say that resell of "their" instructor's guides or curriculum schedules are not permitted.

I don't agree with it, but I am not the publisher. Now I have seen many of those listed for sale, with the exception of Winter Promise. That one most really seem to stick to and not resale. I have seen them offered as give away, not very often.

Crazy! I had no idea these things couldn't be resold. (Glad I don't have any listed!)
