Maybe you guys can help me understand....... This is our first year hsing. Up till now everything that we used or didn't like that I purchased I just gave away to someone who could use it. Then people told me to stop doing that and sell it. Okay, I thought. I know most of the curriculum ask you not to resell. So, I didn't. Until now, So, I put a couple of items up for sale, they sold! Wow, how fun. Now, I have extra money to get something else. Because I am always looking. I kept the money in my pay pals. I sent the product out and they recieved it in a day or two. The person sent me a e-mail stating that she was pleased I sent it so quickly. I thought, Oh how nice, I am really liking this! The next day I recieved another e-mail stating that she decided not to use the product and was going to resell it. I thought to myself why is she telling me this. But, oh well...... Then I recieved another e-mail stating she doesn't want to sell the product and she reported to pay-pals and now the money is frozen. What the heck did I do wrong. She wants her money back and now she has the product.
There are several reasons I no longer have a paypal account, but you just gave me another one. Is there a way to talk to a paypal representative in real time? (phone, chat, etc.) I'd be asking how they can freeze it unless you did something against policy. Buyers remorse should not be enough for them to hold your money.
My dad taught me to sell things with a statement in the purchase receipt " This item is as is no warranty" IT may be a good policy to use with online sales as well?
Who did you sell it through? Sometimes EBay, & the like will help out if it was through them. I try to either sell through Amazon (which I've never had a problem like that), or try to sell to people I "know". Through the Spot or IRL. Anyway...sorry you're going through this, I hope you're able to resolve it. There certainly are unsavory types out there....even through the Homeschooling Community!
Is she even planning to send the book back to you? If not, she's stealing! I agree that you should put some type of statement on your auctions stating that items are bought as is. I used to sell on ebay and only allowed returns if I misrepresented something. It only happened once. (I made a mistake in the description.) For this auction, I'd probably let her return it and refund the money, just to keep your rating positive. If she doesn't return it, leave negative feedack. (Always check your buyers feedack). Also, try using a different venue. I never sell through eBay anymore--too many things can go wrong with their system.
Then she should be sending the book back to you AT HER EXPENSE. I would also contact Pay Pal and let them know what is happening.
Wow I have some unused curriculum I wanted to sell,I didn't know that they could do that since I've never sold using paypal yet. Let us know what happens that is truly frustrating!
I don't know what to do with paypal, but there are risks in selling and buying on-line. I bought something that was misrepresented and she even denied knowing about it when I questioned her. I think it was about $20-$25, so I didn't want to pay for return postage to get my money back (I probably should have). I mostly try to sell my stuff here or on another homeschool site that has a dedicated used curriculum forum and it sold fast and went well. Don't give up, just be careful. Also, if you belong to a homeschool group, maybe you could sell face to face. I have done that also. Also used bookstores are a good place to get rid of stuff, but you don't usually get as much. If you have stuff that won't resell at a good price that is a good place to sell. ***As far as not being permitted to sell, that varies with publishers. I know a lot of stuff is perfectly fine to resell. For example, MUS even mentions on their website that there is a internet site for reselling their materials. TT gives permission to resell. Most CD based curriculums do not permit reselling. I would just check and do what is right. If I know I can't resell, then I don't.
Paypal will contact you, forward them all of those emails that the buyer sent you, they will cover you. Paypal only covers an item not recieved (or grossly misrepresented) not buyers remorse. It's not very often in the homeschooling community, but seems to be happening more and more often, that people are not being honest and trying to scam people.
I don't think I will be selling anything anymore. There is always one sour apple in the bunch. I really didn't do anything wrong. The merchandise was not misrepresented. She just decided not to use it. I really can't help that. I have spend hundreds of dollars on things I wished I haven't. Even if I do refund her the money how do I know what the condition the merchandise is in now. Its not like I can see it. I don't trust her I have been forth coming and she has not.
Just make sure you reply right away to all the emails that paypal sends you. Did you happen to get delivery confirmation on the package? That is a big cover your butt thing with paypal.. and if at all possible pay for your shipping right at the paypal site. A cheap digital kitchen scale will work for most things (up to 10 pounds) over that I use my bathroom scale. I did have a postal scale but it died a while back, but I have survived without it. As far as paypal will see it, you filled your obligation as a seller by shipping the item and the buyer recieving it... they will side with you on it, but it takes a few days usually for it to all be taken care of. Paypal is a good company, I have never had trouble with them (now once I had someone steal my money and wipe out their account so I couldn't get it back.... it still 5 years later shows on my account if they ever put money in their account I will get it immediately).
Yes. I did get the Oak Meadow science. I actually loved it so much I bought the curriculum for sixth grade. So, I won't be using that one until next year.
Next time see if there is a local used curriculum sale you can get a table at. The other thing is to try craigslist. I usually sell most of my stuff at our used curriculum sale. As it stands I am supposed to be pricing stuff...the thing is on Wed  I still have a ton of stuff to do on the organization side (I am one of the coordinators) and I need to get my stuff together...ugh!!
Something in my gut told me you would like it!! I have drooled over OM for years, but it's not something that really fits our budget, and I'm afraid I would miss the time I put into bits and piecing things together (I actually kind of like that, I must be insane..lol). I saw last week on diaperswappers someone who had almost the complete 6th grade for $100, I really had to restrain myself not to buy it. We are finishing up 6th this week and I won't have another 6th grader for 5 years..lol.
Well, I bought the sixth grade if you remind me I will ship it all to you at the end of the year. God knows I won't be selling it anymore.
I wouldn't give up on selling all together. From personal experience I have had some great success. I sold two MUS complete sets for about 50% of the new price. (internet homeschool forum) I sold TT pre-algebra for $120. (face to face sale to a friend) TT sometimes goes for only about $20 less than new on e-bay. I don't think I want to do e-bay, because there is a lot of stuff to keep up with. I also sole Apologia Phy. Science for about $40. (internet homeschool forum)
Yeah, don't give up! Try www.homeschoolclassifieds.com I've always had good luck both buying and selling there!
Another thing to consider is only accepting money orders or personal checks. This is the first year I have ever sold curriculum, too, and I have had very good experiences on www.homeschoolclassifieds.com, too.
