I shouldn't have answered it, but I made a mistake. I'm human, right? Anyhow he was some college kid who is going around this summer working with parents and teachers and some yada-yada-yada. Meanwhile my door is letting out precious cool air and I am getting bathed in humidity. (Our ac is struggling right now). I told him no thanks. He kept going. I told him we homeschool and I'm all set. He continued wanting to show me study guides. Then my toddler wakes up and I had to pretty much slam the door in his face. I felt sorry for him, but he probably had to get the typical 3 no's before he left. And to top it off he interrupted school. Kinda ironic that he was trying to help education and ended up interrupting it. But that was my mistake - opening the door.

I dont even ope doors al the way anymore they are all scammers and trying to get a foot in the door. The thing to remember is we are not responsible to be polite to them after the first "Im not interested". after that they are pushy sales people not strugling studetnts or whatever they claim.

I wonder if he was selling books for Southwestern. They are BIG on getting college kids to go door to door during the summer selling their books.. many of which I like I might add, but I prefer to go looking for books I want to buy instead of having someone try to shove them down my throat.

PS.. our air is struggling here too! It has been over 100 every day this week..in PA, that is sooo insane!! Guess we are making up for not getting over 90 a single day last year..lol.

EXACTLY! I'll show you respect, until you fail to show me respect. Keeping on after my "No" is rude and shows a lack of respect, after that, I get rude right back.

My kids are only 3 and 6 and they are expected to respect the 1st "no" otherwise they get in trouble. If a 3 and 6 year old can get it, so can adult holding down a job!

The problem is they are required to go until the 3rd no. Have you noticed that after the third no it is easy to get rid of them? I usually just say no, no, no pretty quickly and that is the end of it. Didn't get a chance today though.

No, we are in Canada and he presented himself as a go between for parents and teachers in the local district.

I want last summer back!! It is too hot. But I might as well get used to it because we will likely move to a place that is a year round sauna.

We really don't get people like that here. I get the usual Johova (sp) people, but that is it.

I don't answer the door unless I'm expecting someone. I'll peak, and if it's NOT UPS, FED EX or mailman or someone we know is coming, I just ignore it. :) We live on a really busy road, though...so I just don't think it's too safe to do it, you know? Lady alone with her kids, etc?

    Ok, that sound easy!

    "Would you like to buy..."

"No, no, and no. I've said it three times, so you are free to move on! BYE!!!"

I always cut into thier drawn out statement with " I'm sorry I'm not interested I could ask my hubby but he will probably say not interested too so to save you time and help you get on to the next sale, no thank you goodbye, ( close door) . If you spit it out fast they are dumbfounded but grateful you were straight with them.
As for not opening doors I feel like it is lying if you do not open the door as if youa re saying you are not home. So then I feel bad for not answering it, lol.

Why? How many of us don't answer our phones during school hours or if we don't know the person on our caller ID? I think not answering the door is the same. I don't think you're under any obligation to open the door if you're home!

I NEVER answer my door...except for the other day...LOL. I have no idea why I did either. It was nothing. My dog usually scares most away. He has quite the bark...no bite..lol..but a bark.

Anyway, most of the time, I don't open it. My kids even stay away from windows if someone comes to the door..LOL. They know that uninvited people are not welcome. You never know. I hate to be paranoid...but once a man did come to the door and he was kinda strange. In fact, he almost got in a physical fight with my neighbor. He was going door to door welcoming people...that's what he said..it was weird. So, I just keep the door closed.

The worst is when you are outside already! No...no...or when your kids are outside and they ask your kid to get you. I'm already offended you spoke to my kid. Okay...no I'm not really...I just hate to be bothered with door to door vendors or whatever.

That reminds me of an incident about a month ago. My kids were in the front yard playing (I was inside doing dishes). I can see them from the window and I like to keep an eye on them. We live at the end of a very long street in a cul-de-sac. NOBODY comes down the street unless you know someone who lives here.

Anyway, a shady looking van came down and parked in our neighbors driveway and I got an uneasy feeling. I dried my hands and headed outside and just as I was coming down the steps my son came running up to me and the guy was not too far behind him and the guy said "uh, I was just sending him to get you. Do you need new windows?" It seemed REALLY weird since the van was unmarked and he looked pretty rough. I told him no and that solicitations on this street are not taken lightly and there is a sign at the beginning of the street that says no soliciting. I gathered my kids and went inside. He went back to the van and got in a drove off. I then realized there were 3 men inside the van. I grabbed a partial license plate and reported them to the police. I am 99% sure they were were going to kidnap my son. The didn't go to any other doors and ask about windows, just stopped, got out, I caught them and then they left. My neighbors are now aware and we have a really great street that watches out for each other.

I now tell people that if they don't leave I will report them. I also try to see if they have a name tag or a logo of some kind that ties them to a company. I also watch my kids like a hawk. We have lived here 4.5 years and that was the first time something like this happened in our area.

Wow, well for policing the area we live practically across from a public school so there are always police around, but I watch for the kids who go there walking home to be sure they are okay. lol. My kids never realy went out front much with out me being in teh garden and now that they are older they are just not comfortable with it but that is because I know how easy it is for kids to be grabbed and even 12 yr olds can be nabbed by one person so teach you rkids what to do and what to say!
