I like the look of the Success with Spelling too. Wow...I really like how Scholastic has the entire books on the preview! I'm even a little interested in them myself (maybe 3rd - 5th). One won't last the entire school year, but as a supplement they might be nice. We are using Sequential Spelling, which dd is liking...but she might like some worksheets like this from time to time too...they look kinda fun. ARGGGG.....now there's other stuff over there that I want (and I HATE printing!!). I like the Success with Math and Success with Multiplication...looks like fun variety there. I see Rainbow Resource has those, so I'll probably just have my school buy those next year. I like the Fraction ones too (Fractions isn't at Rainbow...so I may buy those two). If you type in Line Designs (Ok...on second thought, maybe you SHOULDN'T) they have some cool looking math design books on the dollar sale. And then one of those took me to neat looking Quilt math books...and then Kaleidoscope math books......... What to do!? There's like 14 books that I'd like to get. Maybe I should just x out and leave the site and not think about it anymore......

I used Spectrum years ago and remember that is was a pretty typical spelling program. We are using Spell by Color this year, because I felt like we needed to crack down on spelling and the rules at our house. Surprisingly, they do remember the colors/rules, BUT the papers get overwhelming as some words will be circled and/or underlined with two or more colors as rules are added. We are going to finish it out, but I would not say it's made mine better spellers. They can quote the rules but aren't applying them. :/ Plus, there are so many exceptions!!

No one has mentioned Spelling Power. Love it! I've used it with all 3 kids. I like the study process and how its not just one more worksheet they have to do. Sometimes we mix it up and spell aloud instead of writing them down on paper. I also like how it moves on. If you know how to spell it, great. Move on. It's quick in that your spelling lesson is 15 min long. I like the games or activities to reinforce the spelling of the missed words.

My older daughter struggled with spelling up til we got this in 5th grade. Then she progressed very quickly and is a successful speller.

My younger (4th gr) uses it now and loves it. She says it's her favorite job (we call our subjects 'jobs').

Here's a link to someone selling a used copy with the task cards and student books (which aren't actually necessary, but they're included. The same info is in the SP book itself)
