WOW! If that's true, that's really sad!! On another topic, WHY are teachers having to use their own money to buy supplies for their classroom?? I'm sorry, but there is plenty of tax money to cover what they need.. WHERE is it going?? To the new football field? Or new basketball uniforms? SERIOUSLY?? And why is the school supply list so incredibly long.. What happened to pencils, paper and crayons as the supplies? Our system is SO messed up!! I applaud the teachers in the school system for their efforts.. The Gov't is making it so hard on them and they don't get paid beans for educating the future of our country! Off my soap box..

Oh, soooo many thoughts are running through my brain! LOL
None of the thoughts are blaming the system. As far as I am concerned, the system is the excuse, not the reason.

As a classroom teacher, I can attest to spending money out of pocket for the classroom. While I don't condone what the teachers in this article are doing, it's still a sad state of affairs to have to finance your career. We pay out of pocket because of our commitment and dedication to what we do, and in return, we are spit upon from every direction.

I know the teachers here buy things out of their own pockets and our church makes up boxes for each teacher in our church family. My son in law is a middle school librarian and buys pencils and tissues to keep in the library for the kids. In the elementary school they can't afford enough teacher's assistants even if a child has an IEP saying one needs to be in that class. Sad.

    Couple things to say:

    #1. That's sad.
#2. Anyone here watch the movie "Here Comes the Boom", with Kevin James? How he decides to compete in MMA to save the band program for Henry Winkler, because the tax money is all going to Football fields and new jersey's for the Sports teams? It's a super movie, and I encourage you to watch it. I was astounded (having worked in a Public School setting, and going to college for it) about how accurate it all was. Right down to the teaching attitude some teachers have from plain old BURNOUT alone!
#3. I get crayons, markers, pencils, paper, folders, binders, stickers, and erasers every year from my MIL at the end of every school year. This is stuff that has NEVER been used! They give you a list at the beginning of every year, yes? "Hey, make sure your kid brings crayons, markers, blah blah blah..." and lemme tell ya...they don't get used!!! I have them. At home. In my closet. I usually keep the used boxes of stuff and the opened packets of paper, but for "Back to School" I donate back the same stuff from the previous year that some parent bought, thinking it was prudent to their student's success.

Every teacher I know buys supplies with their own money. I remember purchasing supplies for our older girls when they went to public school because the schools couldn't afford them. It isn't right.
BUT! Teachers aren't the only ones purchasing the extras that they shouldn't have to purchase. Granted, this article focuses on teachers. My husband purchases supplies that his boss should be buying. Many police officers use their own phones and weapons because the government doesn't fund enough money to keep them properly supplied or electronics properly functioning. I am sure we can come up with many occupations where employees are paying out of pocket when they shouldn't be, especially government employees.

What are these teachers teaching the students? When you need more money, sell yourself! Your worth is valueless and material objects superior to your virtue? I personally don't think there is ever an excuse for selling oneself. Sex or no sex , this is what they are doing. They do it for one reason. It is quick and easy money.
