All of these stories are very special!
A former homeschool friend of mine stopped in this afternoon and told me I had to read about an unusual romance. Though quite different from any that have been posted so far, I thought it would be appropriate to share it here.

Oh that first date....seems like so long ago! Only 11 1/2 years though!

Ok....first off, we "met" in an AOL chat room. I had driven 2 hours to meet someone, who stood me up. Drove 2 hours home and thenI went to a chat room and asked, "anyone between 21-30 between San Francisco and Sacramento?" And dh was the only one that said, Yes.

    It was meant to be.

We talked on AOL for hours, then we talked on the phone for hours. He was in Texas on leave from the Navy and would be returning to the area the following week. He called me when he returned and then we met IRL the next night.

I was waiting in the Jack-in-the-Box parking lot. He was driving a 4 x 4 Ford pickup truck. He came zooming into the parking lot and I thought for sure he was going to hit my car. When he stepped out, I fell in love. WHOOOEEEE!! Six foot tall, dark brown hair, light light blue gorgeous eyes and a beautiful smile....and the SEXIEST soft Southern accent I'd ever heard. We went to a brewery, had beers and nachos...and talked the whole night long..until they closed and kicked us out...then we sat outside and talked some more....

then he tried to drop me off at Jack in the Box well after 3 am.....but after all that kissing he followed me home instead....I was not a Christian back then....

Ten days later, we were proclaiming our love for each other, saw each other constantly the next 6 weeks, then he went away on a tour of the South Pacific for 7 months. We sent a flurry of love letters and phone calls every chance we got. He came home and we got married 2 months later. Two and a half years later our first baby arrived. Then 19 months later the second, then 2 1/2 yrs after that, the third.

It has been a whirlwind but we are crazy about each other!!!

To say it was strange that I had not met my DH before I did, is an understatement.

We both worked in the entertainment industry, in the Houston area working with the same people in the same places...

Anyway... in 1992 I had grown tired of the scene and the people and the lifestyle... I was working a gig that I really didn't want, but it paid well.So at the last minute I took the gig.

I was a manager for an outdoor festival in downtown houston called the Bob Marley festival. This means I am responsable for the entire stage, the equipment and getting the security to line up and so on....

There was a second stage on the opposite side of the field in front of the George R Brown convention center.... it was a beer truck 18 wheeler that folder out to a full service stage with lighting trusses and all...

    Running sound was "J".
    Long haired rocker J.

We met, shared numbers and never spoke again.

A month later my best friend found a date and stood me up. I had no where to go and it was 9pm on a friday night... thumbing through numbers I found that guys number. "What the heck" I said, and called it.

A girl answered! (was it his girlfriend??)
I asked for him and she said, YEA!
    (It was his sister! WHEW!)

He came on and was going on and on about how he lost my number and was SOOOOO glad I called.

I doubted this, but I was impressed that he was home on a friday night.

    Wanna come over? I asked?

    Sure! He said.

I told him to bring a movie and something to drink. (This was secretly a test.)

He brought Steven Banks stand up comedy (A private fav of mine) and DR Pepper to drink! I knew he was a WINNER!

In our life everyone did drugs, watched porn and drank alcahol... not me,.... and neither did he.... WHEW! He didn't even smoke cigs......

    That was 15 years ago....
    Ahhhhh!!!!

Now I have him going to church and he got me to finally give up the cigarettes two years ago.... WHOOO HOOOOO!

    Here is us in 1993.....

When I met my dd's father, he looked a lot like J; a long-haired rocker LOL. But once we found out we were having a baby, he thought it looked more respectable to be a dad with short hair. So he lopped it off....and then it was dark too!

But then my hair was so tall up that most of the time it wouldn't FIT in the pictures!

I totally missed this thread! Here is a shortend version about how Troy and I met and started dating, since we really don't have a "first" date really...

We were both at the same college in upper WI...Eau Claire to be exact (know where that is Kris? ;)). The campus had too many students to fit in the dorms, so we got to live in overflow dorms at the local Holiday Inn. Yep...a hotel! Very cool! Troy lived 4 doors down from me.

Now, at the time I was engaged to someone else. But, the guy was a jerk. Troy and I met while we were both at the hot tub downstairs (baaw, chicka, baaw baaw...just kidding LOL). We hit it off and became close friends. 8 MONTHS, yes 8 months, he tried to "woo" me. He literally just waited for me to come around. And, eventually I did. During those 8 months he treated me more like a boyfriend than my actual boyfriend. It was a total God thing. My ex was not a believer. Troy was and is. The summer after that year of college I went home for the summer, and he decided to live in the next county over with his brother for the summer so we could be closer...this was before I got rid of my ex even. He treated me like a princess, and still does. We were just meant to be. :D

If I had to figure out what our official first date was, I'd have to say Dragonetti's Italian Restaurant in Eau Claire. We got dressed up real fancy and he took me out. Then we went dancing afterwards.

Hey, I know where Eau Claire is! One of my cousins went to college there. My family lived near Richland Center for a couple of years. (The cousin, however, is from Clinton.)

I LOVED Eau Claire. Beautiful town, safe, not too small or big. If we ever moved away and up north somewhere, we'd go back to Eau Claire.
