How much traveling do you include in your homeschool and how much do you wish you could include ? Until now we have not done any. We are planning a school beach trip next month. I would LOVE to be one of those people who travel 24/7 . If anyone has any blog suggestions for school travel I would love them !

We studied the New England States one year, and the next summer we headed out on a four-week camping trip. We also met up with a bunch from here in Philadelphia once to see King Tut's treasures at the Franklin Institute. That was an awesome trip! But that's about it. I have a friend who took several months following Lewis and Clark's trail. I always wanted to follow the Oregon Trail, and visit relatives out in Washington State.

We took a field trip with a homeschool group out of South Carolina to Washington DC. She had families join her from all over the country and she does a great job of planning EVERYTHING for you. Check out her site for her current trips she's planning. http://www.carolinahomeschooler.com/

Hubby and I talk a lot about how we would love to live in an RV and travel all the time (once Garrett is out of the house), but we have no clue how we would support ourselves. If I knew of a way to make a few hundred bucks a week online that didn't involve me cleaning my house nude, we definitely would hit the open road.

We try to take a family vacation every year, some years we don't go far and just camp in a state park and enjoy nature other years we go to places like Williamsburg VA or DC or other tourist places. We always try to make it somewhat educational.

I would love to travel more, but am blessed that we have the chance to travel quite a bit in the northwest at least.

I wish there was some way to make lots of money while on the road. Traveling gets really expensive. Last week we took a tenting trip and I was still amazed at how much we spent.

One thing I love is that many zoos belong to a reciprocal system and my zoo membership at our usual zoo gets us in to other zoos for free or half price. Science Centers also have a similar system that we have been taking advantage of whenever we travel.

We haven't traveled the Oregon Trail or Lewis and Clark's trail, but we live near enough to them that we have visited many of the western sites. One of the highlights of our summer was a weekend camping at the headwaters of the Missouri River.

Science museums also have reciprocity. When we went to New England, we would notice where the science museums were, and they were perfect for rainy days (especially since we were camping!)

We LOVE TO TRAVEL... but as others have said, it can get expensive! I travel for work once or twice a month and, unless I am flying, the kids usually go with me. This fall, the plan is for them to travel with me to Washington D.C., Toronto, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore.

I am also in the throes of planning a 3- or 4-day trip to Boston early this fall, too. I want to take the kids to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit at a museum up there, and my daughter and some of her Bostonian camp friends are planning a get-together dinner.

We've also taken advantage of homeschool days/week at Disney (FL), Kennedy Space Center, and Williamsburg and turned each of those opportunities into week-long trips. Those were so much fun! My kids are begging to return. The crowds are light and the weather is still warm, but with low humidity.

I agree if there was a way to make a decent living while living in an RV we'd be gone in a heartbeat! Especially when my kids get a bit older. I'd love to take a few years and just travel the continental U.S. I think it would be an amazing experience for all of us and a great educational opportunity for the kids.
