I think it is so much easier to stay on track since my kids are older now. When they were younger I ate everything they didn't finish and I kept cookies and all the other things kids like to keep around. I still keep things here that Emily loves and of course a drawer of goodies for the grandboys, but thankfully they don't ask for things I loved to eat and Emily loves fruit and healthy foods. She has always been good about trying new foods. My treats now are greek yougurt, navel oranges and sugar free Jello chocolate pudding. I haven't been eating regular bread since Feb. but I love Flatouts. I keep several kinds in the freezer and Emily likes them too. I like to keep cucumbers sliced up in the fridge to munch on when I just want to eat something between meals. I also keep cantalope cut up for snacking on.

I have a workout channel on the Roku, I need to use it.

I also need to use my gym membership! I haven't been in months. It's been one reason after another, bad weather, no gas money, someone is sick, too busy to fit it in, gym daycare isn't open when I want to go, etc...

I'm doing good on drinking water and not much else (except coffee, my weakness, it's ALWAYS Coffee O'Clock here! LOL)

So my goal for the rest of this week and next week is to MOVE for 30 minutes a day. Gym, workout videos on the Roku, hoeing the garden, walking, something! 30 minutes EVERY DAY! Cooking and cleaning don't count! :) That's my goal.

Sloan, I find keeping fresh fruits and veggies cut up and ready to grab and snack on makes it easier to snack on them too. I try to keep cut up carrots and celery in a gallon bag in the fridge, and usually some cut up apples too. I try to go ahead and wash things like strawberries and grapes when I bring them in so they are grab and go as well.

I also find that not bringing in the cookies and cakes and stuff helps LOL I have a rule we usually stick by pretty well, and that's one junk food per grocery week. Usually ice cream, sometimes cookies. And one homemade junk food per week (usually pumpkin muffins cause they are so super easy! LOL)

I do try to keep small treats on hand. Hershey's Kisses, etc Something that is very small, so 1-2 isn't going to kill your calorie or sugar intake for the day, it's a nice treat for kids and adults. Plus hubby is Type 1 so we need something on hand in case his sugar crashes.

I just mentioned doing milk shakes this summer with bananas instead of ice cream and my kids lamented....No ice cream... with sad faces. LOL

Very disappointed today. Had my followup doctor's visit. Since stopping the two daily meds, my cholesterol and blood sugar levels have increased, so I have to start taking them again. Plus, as I get older, my thyroid is not working so well. Lately, I've been eating Brussels sprouts and/or cauliflower every day - and apparently this does a real number on your thyroid. So, much as I enjoy them, and have used chopped cauliflower as my alternative to rice, I have to stop eating them. :(

I did not know that about cauliflower and brussel sprouts. I have thyroid issues as well and take a daily medication for it. I don't love either one of those veggies so it won't be hard for me to avoid them, but I am sorry you can't have them now.

Have you tried fish oil for cholesterol? My husband takes fish oil for his cholesterol and it actually lowered it more than a 'regular' prescription medication. (fish oil is also good for type 2 diabetes, so you might kill 2 birds with one stone)

Google "goitrogens" You should find lots of info on it and a list of foods that contain it.

Carl is taking krill oil for this. The doctor wanted to medicate him, and Carl didn't want that. So we're trying to see if the krill oil can get it under control.

My exercise regimen and diet do help. Apparently, though, the problem is more genetic than dietary in nature - which is unfortunate. I do eat fish, but don't really take fish oil - although I do remember those awful days as a child when I had to take a spoonful of cod liver oil before going to bed. Thanks for the tip.

Oh no - spinach is on the list too, and I eat a lot of that.

I am so excited.. I have started a new eating plan. I have been on it for one month and have already lost 15 lbs and lost some inches in the places where it counts! Now, I need to work on exercise more... but I really need the motivation to get myself moving!

I was a little worried that I over did it on Mother's Day. Two of my girls got us pizza for lunch and then took me to get frozen yogurt! I had a lovely day and enjoyed the treats but I was afraid I would be up a few pounds today. NO! I was down two pounds! I really worked out later in the day and I guess that made up for it. They knew I wanted some more hand weights and Weight Watchers Punch video so they got me that for Mother's Day too. By the way, chocolate frozen yogurt was wonderful!

checking back in and I am still the same. I have done some soul searching for the last few weeks and I have realized that even though I am no where near where I want to be weight wise, for now I am content with where I am. So I will still watch what I eat because I don't want to gain any weight, but I am not going to force myself to exercise to loose anymore. I will exercise if I feel like it and I will eat a sweet if we are celebrating something. I have never liked my body since having kids and I finally feel ok about it. I feel so much better about myself now that I have accepted my current weight and friends and family have noticed a huge difference in how happy I have been. So for me, weight loss is not going to be a priority right now.

OK. We are home from Vacation, so I can now start getting serious. Yesterday I got three low fat cookbooks from the library. Today, DH and I are starting to record EVERYTHING we eat for one week.

I use the app MY FITNESS PAL on an iPhone that my daughter gave me to record my water intake, food and exercise. I have been doing it since late in Feb. and it really helps me. I really feel like keeps me on track. Freddy and I were talking yesterday about keeping food journals after I had heard someone say they didn't think it was a good idea. I actually enjoy the challenge of keeping mine correctly and staying inside of my calorie range that my doctor suggested.

Minthia, I would rather be happy and content with my life than be stressed by a diet (unless my health was in jeopardy of course). It took my many years to get to the point that I could really work on my weight. Sure I wish I had been thinner when my kids were younger but it just didn't work for me then. Now at 58 I seem to be on the right track and in the frame of mind to do this once and for all. It is so much easier for me without little ones around.

It really is amazing once you start tracking your food. I had wanted to drop weight for some time now, but it took me being in the right mindset to actually be able to do it. In 2 months I dropped the initial 10 pounds that I wanted to. It really was inputing every food I ate and counting calories that helped. For instance, every so often I love a coke. However, just the thought of 150 calories made me shy away from it. I would think of all of the other things I could actually eat instead for that many calories. For a few weeks, I found I was going way under my allowed calories because I was being picky with my calories and if I wasn't truly hungry, I did not snack. The day would end and I still had calories available. I am backing off a little but still making sure to make wiser choices and tracking my steps to keep my activity up more than it had been. I no longer record all of my food and calories, but I still make mental notes of food choices.

I keep recording everything because I don't trust my memory! I really enjoy tracking everything and it lets me record meals that I might want to have again, I can call it up without having to put each item back in. I like that. This week I bought a pair of cute jeans at the Goodwill store (my favorite place to shop). They were size 12. I told Freddy I was going to hang them on the closet door as my inspiration. After I washed them I decided to try them on just for the heck of it and they actually fit! Granted they fit a little tighter than I would care to wear all day long, but they buttoned and zipped! I have not had on a pair of 12s in a gazillion years! We ordered tee shirts for Bible School a few months ago and now mine is WAY too big for me. I love it!!!!
