We moved our TV out of the living room, and it sure does feel great. We don't have cable, so the TV was barely being used anyway, so we moved it up to the guest room. I put a rocker and a side table in the space where the TV was and it's working out great. We wanted to put less focus on electronics and other things that might not be the greatest for our minds (or hearts) and more focus on the good, wholesome things in life. I've also limited Travin's computer time to merely an hour, and movie time to only bedtime. AND I ordered the very first episodes of Adventures in Odyssey. My parents have the WHOLE series and they were a big part of my childhood, and I want it to be the same for my babies =) Sooo yeah.. just wanted to share my good news =)

I saw the Oddessy series at our last church store and online but never heard them before. I have been tempted to buy them but right now we listen to the Johnathan Park series. I just need a few more and I have the whole set.

In my dream home I'd have a place for the TV outside the living space. My friend had their TV in the basement.

We haven't had TV in almost 7 years. I love not having it. Way to go.

We use our TV often for school, but in less than a year our Dish contract will be up and we won't be renewing it. As for location of the TV, we designed the house to have it in the basement, but we are still using the basement as a workshop until the trim and such is finished. *sigh* So happy for you!!!!!!! Can't wait to not have Dish as a temptation for laziness!!!

Good for you! I am considering revising how we watch TV. We don't watch often...but since my dh is hardly around I've noticed I've had it on more. (dh works a TON of hours) My little one is just nuts for Go Deigo Go...UGH. Yeah...TV needs to go.

    Way to go!

I wish we could get rid of our TV. The only thing I really like to see each day is the news (which I could get from the paper). Other than that I could really do without it. DH would never go for it though. He loves TV (sports, racing, and such). I think our family needs to think about our TV viewing.

    Great move!!!

We only have TV for specific DVD or video maybe a couple times a week.

Adventures in Odyssey is great. Back in the day when there was first videos the girls were enjoying them. I don't think they ever get too old for them. My oldest daughter is 20 and still listening.

We have cable TV access through our computer, but we almost never watch it. We do like to watch a DVD about once a week. That's plenty for us.

Having a TV is not the problem. Like anything else in life it is whether or not we apply our values to our TV viewing. THere are many channels that can come in very handy for HS. For example The History Channel, Discovery, NASA, Documentary channel, and the Science Channel. If we use this tool wisely there ca be a lot gained from it. We have a TV in our loft and it is programmed so that there are only specific channels my son can watch. Also, he is allowed to record shows he si interested in watching but cannot watch during that time. Because he has grown up with us monitoring the TV at 9yo he already chooses appropriate things to watch and knows what our standard is.

TV is not the problem, it is our choices in how we use it that can cause us trouble.

The problem is also a lack of self-control for many of us! I've no trouble with a TV, but I'm on this computer WAY more than I should be!!!
