I'm trying to see where we need to be, or if we're already there.
    Thanks

We probably aren't a good example. We start school when the girls get up and moving, usually around 9:00. We are generally done around 12:30, depending on how much they dawdle.

We're so all over the place, I could hardly tell you. Some days we work in the morning, maybe around 9 or 10am, until noon-ish. Sometimes we don't start until the afternoon sometime, say around 1pm and finish up around 3 or so.

I like to aim for 8 but so far it's been a little off the mark, some days we start by 9 and occasionally we start at 10 (ug). But my goal is to begin school each morning at 8. We usually run till 1:30pm (including lunch breaks and p.e.) if we start at 8, and the 10am days run us until 3:30 or 4! See why I say ug. lol.

Just do what works for you and your family. I've heard of those who do afternoons or even nights because it works better for them!

You'll find the answers to this SO varied! It's one of those "whatever works for you is OK" thing!

My family is up at 6:00 AM, and starting school around 7:15. We break at 8:30 so I can listen to Paul Harvey News. We finish between 2:30 and 3:00.

8:30 am for the oldest and 9:00 for the younger two. Somedays 1:30 they are done, other days it is closer to 3:00. Depends on the day, what else is going on, how long of breaks each one of them took. Me on the other hand, my school day is longer. Starts earlier and ends later... :)

Official seatwork begins at 9:00. We usually are done with all the "seat" stuff by about 12:30. Afternoons are "free learning" where they read, do art projects, act out plays, etc. :D

I truly believe that life is learning, so school technically starts the moment they open their eyes to the moment they shut them in the evening for bed. :D

I agree that life is learning.
The aim is to help the children learn how to learn. We learn our whole lives.
    Sorry...off topic... :)

You know... it is the important things that we MUST break for! hahahaha! :p

    hahahaha!
    You're funny.
We all have our weaknesses, eh?
    hahahah!

    We are up around 6am....
    Eat....
Start a load of clothes (Yea the kids do this...)
Watch mom watch the news, while they ask questions.
    See Daddy off to work....
    Start seatwork around 8..
    Usually done around 12 noon...
Off to the library , or a friends, or ballet, or Taekwondo, or Soccer practice.... or off to do other stuff around the house...

Yesterday, when we finished, we began making our "Light is Energy" movie....
Coming soon to a post near you! hahaha!

I usually get up around 7:30 or 8, get the kids up, they eat and my oldest begins work around 8:30 or 9. Usually 9. We break for lunch around 12 or 12:30 and finish anywhere from 1 - 3. It just depends on what we have on the schedule for that day and how quickly she works. Today we have to go to the library and get a birthday present and be at dance by 5 so we should finish schoool by 1:30.

Now, DON'T you make fun of my Paul Harvey, Jen!!! :) I can remember as a 1st grader, walking home at lunch to the neighbor's home (back when the schools were responsible for TEACHING and not FEEDING, lol!) and not being able to say ONE WORD (lol!) while she listened to Paul Harvey! So I come by it honestly! And keep in mind that we don't watch TV, and we don't have a newspaper (though I DO try to read it at the library and at Starbucks!)

("Yeah, right!!!" says IMMATURE Rachael, reading over my shoulder!)

We start school at 10 am after chores are done. Have lunch at noon, finish school around 2 or 3.

We start between 9 and 10 and end somewhere around 3-4. Some days are earlier. We have activities outside the house (Book club, Apologia science class, art class, ballet classes) that break up our days, so this year has been hard to keep the flow going.

We start at least by 10 or 11. And we go until we finished what's on our list for the day.

We generally start around 10am (although sometimes its 9 or like today its gonna be 12:30pm because we went to get some MUCH needed grocieries this AM).

If we start at 10, we're usually done between 2-4 depending on the day (and we take 30-60 mins for a lunch/play break).

Today will be a weird day. Starting at 12:30. Stopping at 2 to take DD8 to OT. Starting again around 3:15- until we get it done. I had a light day planned anyway so we should still be done before Daddy gets home from work:)

This is the true joy of homeschooling. We're having a different sort of day and I'm NOT stressed about it!

usually not until the younger 2 are down for their naps, which is normally around 11:30 or 12. If we start that late, I'd say we are done around 3ish. Sometimes if the younger 2 are playing, we might sneak in an subject or 2.Most of our science involves experiments, so I try to wait until my 4 year old is up from her nap. My ultimate goal is to start around 9ish, but I don't think that will happen until the youngest gets a bit older!!! LOL

    Jackie,
I love the idea that you break for the news. I think it's also healthy for the kids to be up to date with the world around them.
