Our morning chores are: unloading the dishwasher, putting in the breakfast dishes, feeding pets, scooping litter box, making beds and being sure the room is clean. They also have to help with starting laundry, and folding the previous nights laundry, and putting away their clothes. Sometimes there are a few other bits and pieces that we need done.
Chores in the morning include just the basic making beds, brushing teeth, scrubbing their own breakfast dishes and wiping down the area they ate at.. We have it set up where chores aren't done until around Supper time. This way, the house is clean when we get up with the exception of laundry. But then again, this is only the "plan". Sometimes it doesn't happen this way depending on what day of the week it is. Monday's are usually are hardest day as far as getting the house back in order. I take the weekend off or at least don't clean as much as I do during the week. And we have company usually every weekend so I'm sure they think I NEVER clean. LOL.. Family time is more important than always having a clean house. Angela
Morning Chores? I get up at 5-6 in between, do my prayer reading tawg time then any dishes started in dishwasher get put away etc. Start a load of laundry and vaccume. When needed I drive college kids to class and return to teach ds. I am a morning person so I try to get it all out of the way asap in the am.
We have a "routine" more than a "schedule", if you know what I mean. We use our internal clocks most of the time. As a general rule, though, we do 8:30 to 9:30, break until 10, and then work 10-11. We almost always finish by lunch (11:00). If there's anything leftover, we do it later in the afternoon or save it for the following day.
As for the chores in the morning we do , showers, teeth, make beds and feeding the fish. I write the other chores for the day on the white board after ds and I finish his lessons. When the older kids come home from ps they all gaze at the board lovingly (lol not) and choose what they would like to do. Chores and homework usually take 1 1/2 and while they are doing that I can cook dinner and then after dinner we can relax cause the house is clean (well cleaner lol)
I am thinking of letting everyone sleep till 7:30 or so and then have some quiet time we all need that in the morning. By8:30 or so get moving to school. I have to be to work by 2 this year so I would like to finish by lunch and be able to have a little fun with the kids before I go.
sounds like a good plan! I think it if we home schooling parents get that few -30 mins of peace and quiet in the morning uninterrupted silence or prayer we will start our day with the kids in a much better mood, organizing our thoughts before they get up is so important!
Chores in the morning consist of getting oneself ready for the day. Teeth/dressed/breakfast/make bed/pick up bedroom. My son takes out the trash and cleans the cat litter out. The girls just need that time to get those other things together.
Every night I leave out work that dd can get started on in the moring (Math, handwriting, grammar....). Dd normally gets up between 6:00-6:30 so she will normally start working around 6:45. If she gets up later than that (between 7:00-7:30) she will start shortly after getting up. I get up between 7:30-8:00 normally. After I get up I will normally get her breakfast (unless she has already done it or dh did it before her left) and then I sit down with the paper and my breakfast. We start our together school work normally between 9:00-9:30 depending on when she gets her Math done.
We let the kids sleep in until about 9-9:30 AM. We have breakfast and morning chores and then have lunch. We start homeschool (after lunch) around 1 PM and we are done by 5 PM (with a break in between).
We start around 10-11 in the morning. I have no idea if an earlier time would be better. I'm not fully awake before then.
IT is so interesting to see the different hours people do school. My son is a morning learner so the ones who start around 9 or 10 sound relaxing but to my son and myself we are near done by then with our spurts of energy and on to rote time ... then we will go on to the have to force ourselves to get it done before we wind down time. I guess that is the Morning Persons in us? He is my only morning person in my house other than myself so I am loving it!
You really have to figure out what works best for your family, and that may change from year to year (at least that has been our experience). But that being said, I really believe a little bit of routine is vital to keep things running smoothly. I am not a morning person so we don't start school too early but I do have a set morning routine to keep me moving. We have family breakfast at 8 and then I let the kids play until my DH leaves for work at 8:45. Then they do morning chores: make beds, brush teeth, get dressed and clean up kitchen table and floor from breakfast. This allows us to start school around 9:30. We always start with "Good Morning Time" when we do our calendar, number chart, Pledge of Allegiance and prayer. From there we work until lunch. I usually give the kids about an hour break over lunchtime and then we are back to finish school. I guess we don't have a strict schedule, just a basic routine that we follow to keep us accountable. I find when I let things slide in the morning we end up trying to cram everything into the last half of the afternoon.
We are still working on this year's schedule. With two high-schoolers and one middle-schooler we have a lot more schooling to get done. We haven't completely switched from our summer routines though, so bedtimes are still a little late. I'm up already (6-ish), as I get up before DH leaves in the morning. Kids start getting up about 7:30-8:00. Breakfast, feed the dog/walk, make beds, dishes, start laundry, etc. School starts about 9:00. We have a break scheduled for some exercise in mid-morning (if we wait until after lunch it's too hot, and they are too close to leaving for football, etc). I write out what assignments are due by the end of the week and the kids work toward those goals during the week. We do Spanish together, and I go over their writing assignments one-on-one early in the week. Of course, once co-op starts and DS finds out when his college class might be, it all might go out the window and we start back at square one. lol MT3
I wake up my girls around 7:30 and we are ready for school at 9am. I really want them ready so we can start at 8:30, but that never happens! So we start at 9.
When my kids where elementary/middle school we were up at 7 and school started at 9 then as my oldest started high school I was only schooling my younger one and we kept the morning hours and the older slept in and schooled in the afternoon/evening now that both are high school they sleep in and start school work around noon and finish up around midnight depending if they work straight through some days they will finish up around 6 but if they have chores or stuff they stay up late doing the work I work on-call at night and my DH works crazy hours so now that they are older they keep our crazy hours when they were younger I went without sleep to give them routine and stuff the biggest thing is they are taking control of their own schedule and stuff. They do all the house chores laundry, dishes, etc. Its just great to have mature teens int he house
I gave the kids some latitude this summer and let them decide when to begin. I discovered that the later they began, the worse things were for us. Afternoons dragged on, attentions waned, and complaining escalated. So now, I get up at 5:30,work until 8:30 (editing/proofreading) & do a few morning chores. The kids get up around 9-ish, do their morning chores and eat breakfast and are ready to begin at 9:30.
wow this has been amazing reading the different time periods. I have always been the morning person so to me the earlier you can get something done it is better. But I see night people in a different light. I could not imagine my kids doing school work after I went to bed at night. But then you probably can't imagine your kids getting up at 7 ready to start school right away either as my ds is often. I love how we can all adapt our lives to meet the needs of our children and visa versa it is so cool to home school!
