My MFH has always been flexible, and the rest of the family now is pretty appreciative of any effort I make at cooking. (They have also come to expect a new dish from Aball on a regular basis!:)) If our beloved 15 dd sees that I haven't made progress toward a meal, she'll just start working on making chili or experimenting with a new recipe: she enjoys cooking!

Before Christmas, Jackie, Kris, Kbabe, & others were discussing spritz cookies, among different types. They shared recipes & the fact that this type of dough might work better with Pampered Chef stones than with some other cooking surfaces. Well, I went to ebay to look for some PC stones & ended up buying a "cut 'n seal" gadget instead. (It fit my budget better!)

So, I just want to report that I've been having fun with my PC item! The cute little apple turnovers were so delicious as well as pretty tonight! We also had vegetable- hamburger soup & then played some table games before the men went back out to the shop to work. I've also used the cutters to make sealed sandwiches out of bread and have also made stuffed pasta, made out of home-made noodle dough filled with creamed potatoes & cottage cheese.

I love my cut n seal gadget too!!! It is awesome. Ems likes to make peanut butter sandwiches with it. It makes great turnovers. Hmmmm!
I have to make some tomorrow.:D
I had one that broke but I saved the cutting part and use it for biscuits. Then I had to make sure I purchased another because they are great. It is one of the tools I do not want to be without. I really love their egg separator too. It separates better then anything I ever tried.

I actually tried something different...I put it in the crock yesterday afternoon on high. I added some hot water, salt, pepper, onion powder, a tad of garlic powder to taste. I also threw in a bit of chicken bouillon for flavor. It turned out pretty good!

I've also made fried cabbage (my own throw-together recipe) with a bit of bacon grease, salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. I then fry some mixed eggs at the end.

For ground venison, I use it in any recipe that calls for ground beef. Or I might use half ground beef and half ground venison.

We're having the venison tonight that we didn't have last night, but it's tenderloin instead of ground.

So, basically, I could brown the whole package (it's about 5 lbs.?) and divide it up and freeze it for later use (?)...

Deena: when I cook cabbage for DH and 2 kids I core it and cut it in 4ths. I put it in a pot with water and a tad bit of salt and a pinch of red pepper flakes, and cook until its tender. (I cover it because I don't like the smell)

we are FINALLY having fried chicken, pinto beans, corn bread and probably mashed potatoes or some vegetable.

I really just like the pinto beans and corn bread.

Then I'll use left over beans and make chili tomorrow for lunch.

    Thanks for the welcome!

    Hello Everyone,
I just sat down and read all the entries; thanks for the welcome. Lots of neighbors, near and far. I am in NE Ohio, about a 10 minute walk to Lake Erie. I used a little of a couple of suggestions. I cut up the pork; made brown rice first; put some chicken stock w/flour in it to make a gravy or sauce; took out a bag of frozen mini carrots; threw them in the rice mixture-let them cook/thaw; put the pork in and the family loved it. The only thing I would change was the rice cooked too much. Bot nobody mentioned it. They were happy - so was I. I really like being able to look at these entries and get ideas for what to cook. Most of my trouble is with the idea part of dinner. Today I have ribs defrosting in the fridge - so I will bake them later/ I almost forgot, my daughter likes bbq sauce so I can put it on all the ribs; I was about to say I was going to put it on half. Times and food likes change - thank goodness; it makes it easier to cook, sometimes. We have a "game" day today. We meet at a bookstore (homeschoolers) and the kids play chess, checkers and other board games. It is really a nice time. I get coffee; there is a coffee shop; and we get a special ($2.50) cookie; and my daughter gets a shake or a smoothie. We meet twice a month. It is a great gathering for the kids...bye for now.

Today is leftover's day. I have alot of stuff in the fridge to clean out. For lunch, potato soup for me. mac-n-cheese with turkey chunks in it. I will also have a salad with some turkey chunks. Dinner is left over pizza for the children and I. Dh will have the leftover chicken spagetti. The little ones didn't care for the chicken, they like their hamburger. Thrusday I will end the leftover day with French toast sticks. I have some bread that needs to get eating up.

Hi, Nancy! I was surprised when I posted my cabbage idea & your post popped up at the exact same time. Welcome to the spot! It sounds like you have a really fine support group.

Dozermom67, we've found that if we soak venison in salt water for half an hour or so before cooking it that a lot of the blood and therefore some of the "wild" taste is gone. We do this with ground or cut venison. With the ground, you'll need to soak it in a colandar or strainer, so you can drain the water.

    Hey ya'll

Hi, I don't know who it was that responded to me earlier about "me having alot of support" because of our Game Meeting - but the support at this site, in the quotions about Who is helping us, our Creator; this is the support I need. I get a whole lot out of just seeing the quotations you wonderful women have on your signatures. That is the support that strengthens me. Thank you all... since this is the food thread..mmm..I already said I was making ribs for dinner; Maybe I'll just add that I really want to try that Cauliflower recipe.. I haven't cooked it any other way besides with Corned Beef. ;)

I'm making Chicken Fried Steaks with country gravy, mashed potatoes and peas or corn.

I need to go sign up (and pay) for Angel Food this week...They've changed their schedule, so I'm a bit 'off' and missed the last two months. The church that has it has a web page, but it still has the December schedule.

    French Toast

Just an idea... :!: I always make up a whole loaf of bread into French Toast on the electric griddle, let it cool, then freeze it in the bread bag it came in. (more if I have the bread, eggs, milk and time) Just pop a piece (or however many you need) into the toaster for a quick and easy breakfast any day of the week! ;)

Thank you for the great suggestions!!! Venison can be a bit strong. I'll probably make it 1/2 and 1/2 with hamburger when I use it in anything. :)

I made the Chicken Casserole -copykat from Cracker Barrel the other night. It was gone. The kids loved it. I found it a little greasy so I will try again with fat free Cream of Chicken soup instead. Altogether a good casserole.
We had our Mothers Night Out last night!! We had so much fun! Applebees was a great host. I had a chicken quesadilla(sp?).
Tonight -not sure. Tomorrow we have guests from Friendships Ministry so I will probably make King Ranch Chicken Casserole.
