Printing out the kids student planner or just buying one? With the cost of ink anymore I am not sure which one would be cheaper..
I print my dd's yearly, monthly and weekly schedules as well as her handwriting pages and other things. Even with the price of ink I find myself coming out cheaper.
I just picked up a super nice student planner from Mardel's for $4.99. I can't justify the time and effort of printing one for that price.
Was it on sale?? I looked and didn't see anything for that price unless I am looking in the wrong place which is possible!! Lol
It wasn't on sale. I just checked again and it was $5.99 (sorry.. remembered wrong). Still, can't I bother with the time hassle to save a buck or two (taking into account the ink and paper costs). They were back in the education area on an endcap. . The one I got for DS has marbles all over the cover.
I just tore the website apart using every search term I could think of... nothing. It's the Think Student Planner. Amazon also has it for $5.99. From the content in the back, it looks like it's marketed to college students, but it's perfect for my 5th grade DS. Not that it will be "perfect" for you, but there ARE inexpensive planners out there. [Note: I realized last week that, around here, Mardel is ALWAYS cheaper on school supplies than Walmart. For example: I purchased a 3" binder from Mardel for $3.99 retail. The least expensive one that Walmart carried was $7.99.]
Yeah I saw all the school supplies on there! Hoping the prices stay the same throughout the year. I am sure I will need some during the school year and of course all the school supplies will be higher at Walmart during the off season! lol
It will depend on what you are looking for. Big Lots has student planners that are $2.99. I have seen more indepth student planners for $5.99. Again, it depends on what you are looking for.
With my personality, I need a planner. I am not good at printing things out routinely like that. Lol The Well Planned Day is a great lesson plan book but it is a bit costly.
I saw those and looked at them. Very nice but like you said a bit costly for me! Maybe in a year or two when the kids get older.
I don't do student planners but a teacher planner but I prefer to print it out. But, I only pay like $15ish/year for ink & print all I want to all year with that.
I would buy rather than print if the planner was laid out the way I like and priced right. If not, then I print to get it the way that will fit my needs. Joyfully, Jackie P
Costs aside, I like custom designing our own. I print out weekly sheets with everything they need and they go in a small 3 ring binder with This Week in a sheet protector. I pre-format them and often have a month "planned" out ahead, and then I just cut and paste to adjust each Sunday to our pace, appointments/activities and success rate. I have never found a planner that fits me. About half way through each year, I usually tweak the format again. My evaluator joked with me about that this year. Especially since each of my kids is different. My oldest just needs a weekly check list for each subject of what I want to see done, and she sets her own schedule depending on moods and interests. My Middle One has to have each day laid out with specific objectives/assignments, projects and readings to do.
I'm a pencil and paper kind of gal! We have the planners in front of us and can erase and re-write much easier than correcting and reprinting! As for the cost, you can spend as much or as little as you want on a planner, so it just depends on how many pages you print out at a time and whether or not you find yourself reprinting alot.
I guess I'm different. I don't use planners. When my DS was hs, I had a "boughten" planner that was intended for a teacher to write out weekly lesson plans in, with days of the week across the top and subjects down the margin, 5 days with a sixth column marked Notes that I manually divided into a Saturday and Sunday column. I wrote in what I wanted him to do, and he ignored it daily. (LOL) A few years ago, I got marble-backed notebooks for the kids and lined them off myself, 5 weekdays across the top of a two-page spread and subjects down the left margin, for them to write in and check off what they were to do each day, copying it off the whiteboard each day. They didn't keep up with them. So what I do now is just line off a spiral notebook for myself, with a column for each kid and the subjects down the left margin. I keep my own plans at my desk, and write theirs for the day on a whiteboard.
My problem with preprinted planners is that I can NEVER find one that I like! EVER. So....I make my own....
Same here... so I just make my own! I also find that they don't have enough space for everything we do in a day... so I love making my own!
