Today my kids and our youth group have gone with 6 adults to Carowinds. It is a theme park about 2 hours from us. It is Christian music day and they won't be home until around midnight. My sister, who is our youth minister, didn't go with them because she can't walk all day like that due to a bad knee. About an hour ago she got a phone call from one of the girls who went. The girl is 16 and in the 11th grade. She and another girl from our youth group had put their names in for a drawing and the girl that called had won. She won a $16,000 scholarship to Liberty University. I don't know anything about that school, but I hope it is somewhere this girl will be able to attend. She is very smart and her mother will be thrilled with the help for college.
Talk about a blessing!!! Rachael and I attended a Christian College Fair at a local Christian school Thursday night, and Carl and I are just shaking our heads at how we're going to do it! I'm sure they'll have something for this young lady to take there! Even if they didn't, I would consider going for a year or two, and then transfering.
YAY!! What a blessing! BTW... I love Carowinds... I went several times when visiting my grandparents in NC.
Where do your grandparents live in NC? My kids love Carowinds. They got season passes for Christmas last year, but I don't know if we will buy them again. Mine just don't go often enough that they are such a bargain. If we lived closer and went more often I would get them every year.
My grandmother lives in Statesville. I spent every summer there from age 5-14. I haven't been since my grandfather passed away in 2001, but would love to visit with my children now that they are older.
My husband works in Statesville on weekends. Actually it is on the outskirts but we say Statesville. Small world.
Well, actually my grandmother lives in the outskirts, too-- kind of between Statesville & Troutman, but with a Statesville address.
Oh, I have a friend who has taught there, I think. Isn't it in Lynchburg, Va? I don't know if he still does or not.
That's awesome! My previous experience as an Academic Advisor however makes me want to raise a couple issues to think about. This potential student should check on the type of accreditation the school has. There are different types of accreditation for different schools. If you want to transfer credits from one institution to another, you need to make sure that the credits from one college will work at another. I saw some mighty unhappy folks at our local community college who had attended a nearby bible college for years, only to find that their credits were worthless at our community college and at the local state university. If the student is planning to go all the way through for a degree at the college in question, then there is no problem. If the student might want to transfer at some point.... check the credit type before attending! Just my humble .02...
