I'm stunned. We just finished with a yard sale and pulled in over $600!!! And we've been selling stuff off for the past couple months on Craig's list and made over $1500. That means we've pulled in over $2000 for a bunch of junk!! I never would have thought was could get that much money for stuff we would never use again anyway!!! So - the moral of the story here is: have a yard sale - don't just give stuff away like we always did before!!
oh that is great, when we moved this week end we gave alot of stuff away to Goodwill, and will take it off our taxes.
I am so surprised! I remember my mom saying she made pretty good money from having a yard sale, but I NEVER thought she was talking about this kind of money!! I figured maybe $100 - 200, and it seemed like a lot of work for that. But gads - if we can make a couple thousand - it's TOTALLY worth the work!!
As for the tax deduction - I can see how that would be beneficial too. But from here on out, I think we will just set aside a corner of the barn for stuff we're going to get rid of and let it pile up for a couple years - then sell it off. If you don't have the space to store it though, that won't work.
We need to have a yard sale soon too. I hope dh will head it up though. I cant imagine sitting outside watching people going through my stuff. I'd be a nervous wreck lol.
I have to say people were great. A lot of them we talked with, while others were silent and just browsed. It helped a lot that I wasn't emotionally connected to any of the stuff - I think if I was getting rid of stuff I didn't want to get rid of it would be harder.
This is the first time we've used Craig's List, but we DEFINITELY use them again. It was so easy - and we sold stuff so easily.
I am so happy for you! I am famous for giving things away. I hate having garage sales. Well, I never made as much as you or I would do it every year! LOL. I do have a few things to put on Craig's List that I keep forgetting about...I will have to get to it.
That's awesome! We have a yard sale every year and ds gets to raise money for whatever he chooses that year. Last year it was to adopt an animal at the zoo, this year will be for the library.
That's a great idea to decide what to use the money for - that's a wonderful incentive for the kids. We just thought we would get rid of some of this junk lying around here and would use the money to pay for a couple days on the road - this will actually pay for a whole month on the road!!
