OMG - are you kidding me? http://video.aol.com/video-detail/video-shows-ways-to-kill-girl/2538011994 Once again - reason 965 Why I homeschool!
That made me physically sick. What in the world made those girls think this was funny or okay to make a video like that? And one dad couldn't talk about it because he was making dinner? If I thought my child had done something so horrible I wouldn't be able to eat dinner anyway.
I would certainly as the mother demand an accounting from the school. I think the girls, if they are remorseful should apologize to Piper. 6th grade!!!! If my child had done this, there would be some heavy consequence and I sure would let Piper and her mother know what was done. a victim has a right to know what kind of punishment was meted out.
But is it really the responsibility of the school? What account can she demand from it? As long as it wasn't an assignment, they probably had nothing to do with it. Yes, there needs to be an account, but it needs to be through their parents. As for "remorseful", yeah right! Oh, I'm sorry! No, I'll NEVER do that again!
I really am at a loss for words. That is sick on so many levels. What is happening to the youth of today? Ahh ... I fear for the future.
I think what is being said about the schools accountablity is that is was done on a school computer and maybe YouTube should not be on school computers where it is easy to access? From the video it didn't say where they made the video, it could be at home or school. Maybe the school got involved because its a small charter school and they have a contract of conduct the students/parents sign and that is why the school is involved? Just a guess. Either way it is sick, I feel bad for Piper and I think her mother should be concerned about her daughter going back there. I think these girls should be punished severely, that way they won't think about doing something like this again and that MAYBE if they are severely punished they won't think they got off easy doing stunts like this and hopefully that will lead them to a kinder path in life.
Crystal, I think you're right. If it was done on a school computer, then the school should take some kind of action. Either way, I would think the girls should be charged with SOMETHING, but not sure what.
This is sick! If the girls were boys, they would have been investigated for making a terrorist threat.
It's one side to a two sided story though. We have no idea what Piper could have done to those girls to make them so angry at her. The fact they were mocking her "friendship" makes me think there was some kind of betrayal involved. Secondly, I don't think those were serious death threats in the least. Most likely the girls were just mad and opened up MS Paint, took about 15 minutes to make a video, and put it on youtube. Lastly, I don't even know why the school is in question, as this could have been done on any computer and no one can prove the school was involved in the slightest. Really it looks more like a slow news day than a could-be-columbine.
This isn't the school's fault. It's the fault of the parents and their inability to monitor what their children are doing and posting online. That's just crazy!
Having experienced school bullying first hand and knowing how serious it can be when authority figures are dismissive or, alternatively, try to blame the victim, I must say I am a little disappointed by these comments.
I'd pull my daughter immediately - plain and simple. You know - death threats of any kind are serious. When I was younger I might have gotten mad at people and it was more thinking of ways to EMBARASS someone - never KILLING them! Now that she went even more public with it - how will those girls react to that type of "answer" from the girl? I mean come on - if she did something deceptive or whatever against their friendship and they start plotting ways to kill her (even as a joke) - now that they are in trouble with the school (and HOPEFULLY the parents) what will they do? That's what would worry me..... retaliation.
I agree 100% with you, Melissa. I think that if you, Nosedive, had any experience with real bullying (I don't just mean name calling and pushing) you would definitely have a different response. There are some pretty sick kids out there these days. Wasn't there one in the news recently who was about 8 who strangled his sister? If parents and adults don't intervene you never know how far it is going to go. Additionally, the longer that girl is subjected to those actions the more "messed up" she will become and the whole cycle will continue.
