Tomorrow is my youngest 10th birthday. She wanted to have a party with some friends, but since she and I were sick for the most of this week, I talked her out of it. I know, I know, how bad of me. But I was not really feeling up to par, and am still not. So I told her that she can go anywhere she wants to eat, and then we can go shopping to pick out her gift...

I want her day to be special but I have no idea on how or what else we can do...

I guess with me feeling so bad that I am out of the birthday spirit of things....

I am praying that by tomorrow my throat will feel better... hopefully!

Ice cream sounds like a fun thing to have on a birthday and with a sore throat. :) I had that happen with one of my dd's birthdays. Fortunately, I had shopped ahead of time since our birthday tradition is for the birthday person to choose whatever they want me to make for meals on that day. We ended up taking a few friends to the mall a few days after her birthday instead.

Things like this happen. She is a good age to appreciate how things like a person's health have to be taken into higher consideration than parties. I'm sure it is upsetting for you both to not be well, though. :(

Would she be cool with you telling her that, because Mommy's sick, we're going to have sherbet/7-Up floats right now. And NEXT WEEK, when Mommy is feeling much better, she'll make it up to you and take you to lunch and shopping.

I know one of mine would be fine with that, the other wouldn't.

Could you have a party at another time? We don't do big parties for kids except for special birthdays. One thing I always do regardless of big parties or not is make their cake. They decide what they want and I bake and decorate it. If they want a different dessert then I make that. My son's birthday is usually during our missions conference and we don't have time to do the birthday dinner and cake thing then so I will stop at the store and get him some cupcakes for that day and celebrate after missions conference. I try to make the whole day special and let them pick the breakfast, lunch and snacks out for the day. Then they get to pick the dinner place or I make a dinner of their choice. The whole day is about them choosing what they want to eat and do that day. My daughter chose to watch a movie during the day on her birthday so we did. Of course, they get to sleep as late as they want and we shower them with hugs and kisses when they wake up. They get to choose whether to stay in jammies for a while or get dressed right away. We try to do things that are not expensive including the gifts. As you can see we don't really celebrate birthdays in a big way at all.

Maybe postpone her party. Or if you are feeling better have an at home spa for the two of you. Cucumber eye masks and oatmeal facials? :) Bound to make you feel better after being sick.

Postpone it. Absolutely if you aren't fully up to it.
