I need a new morning beauty routine. Okay, maybe I just need *a* beauty routine because I'm not sure I ever had one. But I'm at an age or a place or something where I feel that I need to start paying attention to myself. I can go the whole day and when it's almost time for my husband to get home from work at 5:15, I finally brush my hair!

My hair is thick and shoulder-length and takes forever to dry, so I usually wash it at night. This usually means it's a mess in the morning and I really should straighten it, or curl it, or make some attempt to make it presentable. On a good day, the straightening might happen around 10 am when all the kids are occupied. But some days (and the schedule will get worse next week), it just doesn't happen.

And then there's makeup. I've never done much makeup other than mascara unless I'm going out. But now I feel like I could actually use some help and maybe some makeup would help.

I always get up first in the morning. My dh and I have tea and toast together in the morning. We both eat and read the newspaper, then we put the paper down and talk for about another half an hour. We've done this for years and I think it is important for our marriage, so I'm not going to change that aspect of the morning routine. Maybe I should do it before he gets up, or after he leaves. I dunno. When do you all do your hair and makeup? And how fast can you do it? And do you have any tips?

I love your morning routine with your dh. We are a sleep until the alarm goes off allowing just enough time to get dh out the door on time for work. I have no advice since I don't wear makeup and don't do my hair. I used to wear makeup and have a haircut that required blow drying. However, I have since lost interest. It is just not my thing. I am a jeans and t-shirt with tennis shoes kind of person. When I did wear makeup, I had to go to Estee Lauder and have them choose what I needed and colors, I have no sense of fashion or beauty.

I wash my face, throw my hair back and thats about it. With 10 kids, beauty isn't a big priority

Most days, right before DH gets home, is when I actually look at myself in the mirror for the first time. You might try the "sock bun". It didn't really work for my hair type. You can find a bunch of tutorials on youtube.

Beauty routine? Oh, no, we're supposed to have a beauty routine?

    Okay, here's my routine.

I go to bed. I wake up. On a good day, I shower at some point - but usually only if I need to leave the house and give the illusion that I'm clean and pulled together.

I brush my teeth, probably 4 times a day - because I hate bad breath.

If I'm leaving my house, but not seeing anyone, I don't do ANYTHING. Well, I MIGHT brush my hair. Maybe. If I'm in the mood.

If I'm leaving my house and going to be somewhere (and just so I don't end up on the "people of Walmart" website), I actually dress nicely, comb my hair - even use the curling iron on a good day, I put on eyeliner, mascara and tinted lip balm. There, that's my beauty routine.

If I remember to wash it off before I fall into bed, I call myself Elizabeth Arden and paint my door red. :)

    HA HA HA!!!!!

I got in the habit of getting up and getting dressed when I was suffering from depression, it helped a LOT. I've been lazy as of late and not doing it, and I think it makes me lazy! LOL No joke!

My typical not going anywhere routine is...I shower randomly...daily, but it may be morning or night...or middle of the day, but usually morning or night. (Always in the morning in the summer)

ANywho, I get dressed. IT doesn't have to be fancy, but somehting that doesn't qualify as pjs! I bought several thrift store cotton, comfy dresses to wear around the house. Blue jeans, sweats, whatever-but not PJs!!!

Shoes! Must wear shoes! And earrings!

Then hair is dry it, and usually pull half of it back (I'm growing out and there isn't much else I can do with my hair at this stage) I might wear a bandana, hat or head band instead, or just dry and brush it. Minus drying time (if needed) I spend...60 seconds on my hair at this point...

THen makeup. A dusting of mineral makeup, some eyeshadow, mascara and chapstick (which might or might not be tinted) or lip gloss if I'm feeling girly...total makeup time...3 minutes...

IF I'm going out and want to look 'pretty' I spend a little more time on my hair (5 min tops at this length) and I add powder eyeliner to my makeup routine....so 4 minutes.

I think it's important to remember my hubby has to look at me every day. LOL I want him to know I make an effort for him, not just when I'm going out and others will see me. I think it says a lot to a husband when we take time (even if it is less than 10 minutes) to look nice for them. And I know it makes me feel more energized and better to be dressed and 'decent' looking...

I take a shower usually around 10 AM. I blow dry my hair and put on tinted moisturizer, eyeliner and mascara. I usually dress in jeans/t shirts/tennis shoes. From start to finish it typically takes 35-45 min, depending on if I shave or not that day.

get up shower and blow dry hair. No make up never have I am who I am and if you don't like it don't look. I always tell everyone God gave me this look and he didn't want me to paint it away.. why cover up your beauty. what are you hiding?

I shower in the morning and apply lotion and some sparkly body spray, facial moisturizering cream, brush hair back into a bun and get dressed in simple pants and shirt, and that's it.

Like you, I feel I'm at an age where I need to start payng attention, or else...so I make sure to drink lots of water, to keep the skin hydrated, and wash my face EVERY night before bedtime with a simple cleanser (I use Cetaphil), and apply a light moisturizer or restoring cream...

According to all the beauty websites, that's one of the most important routines to have.

Call me vain if you must :D. I wake at 3:30 AM. Once Handsome is off to work, I usually jump in the shower, clean my face with oil, wash my hair with homemade shampoo, towel off, lotion up, and put on a house rob until my makeup is done. I allow my hair to dry naturally or I dry it with the blow dryer. I put on makeup first then my clothes. The weather and the day I have ahead of me determines how I dress myself. I will dress in anything from cozy house pants, jeans and a blouse, to a dress or skirt. If I am staying home, I still put on makeup. There are also times I do not feel like putting any on and I still go out to run errands. Next I finish my hair. I usually style it. If I am staying home I still style it or I will put it in a french twist or ponytail. I am the type of person that whether or not I am wearing makeup, if my hair is sloppy, I feel sloppy. So I always have my hair done.
At night I wash my face with oil. This way there is no need for moisturizers. It removes makeup, cleanses the skin, and softens at the same time.

Patty~ What kind of oil do you use? Is it the same in the morning and at night? Do you put it on and then wash it off? More details please!

I use Olive Oil, Safflower Oil, and Castor Oil. You can find some recipes online for oil cleansing. Safflower oil is very close to Sunflower oil. I mix a small amount of Castor Oil with bit more of Safflower Oil. I fill the rest of the bottle up with Olive Oil. The small bottle lasts a long time, far long than any bottled cleanser and it is gentle on the face. You can find recipes for oil cleansing online. Since everybody's skin is different, you will need to adjust them to your face. The Olive Oil is the same PH as the skin. Castor Oil is very heavy but very healing. A little goes a VERY long way. The Safflower oil is also cleansing but it is a lighter oil and loosens everything up without using water and harsh soap.

I use a small amount on my eyes to remove the makeup. I wipe off the makeup with a soft rag. I then put a warm rag on my face for a few seconds to open my pores. I then use a small amount of oil and rub it into my skin until all makeup is loose. I use the same rag to wipe off the makeup and oil. Most people stop at this point and your face is done. I do the last step once again to make sure I got everything off. I have not had any problems with pimples or clogged pored. Again, you will have to work with your skin type but I LOVE it and will not go back to anything store bought again. After a few days you will notice a huge difference in your skin. IF you do have a problem with irritation, it is probably from the Castor Oil. It is used for medicinal purposes and can be strong. Since it is very thick, if your oil is too difficult to wipe off, you probably have too much Castor Oil in the mix. You can also use just Olive Oil or Safflower Oil. I did for a while but I like that Castor Oil tends to help with blemishes.

...and, I almost forgot, pimples are not always due to what we put on our face as much as what we put in our bodies. So if you get a pimple from time to time, don't give up on the oil cleansing right away. I had far more pimples when I used store bought cleansers. I have only had one since I started using oil and it was short lived.

I almost forgot again! lol In the morning, my makeup is off so I just use a small amount of Olive Oil only, rub it in, and wipe it off.

I have to confess, I don't have a "routine" either. I just get up and have coffee. It may be lunchtime before I think to look in a mirror, then I'll hastily brush through my hair because it is scary looking! Now that's just for an at home day. But even on my errand days, I don't do anything with myself until that afternoon, right before I go to the store. Yep, we're the ones that give homeschoolers a bad name by schooling in our pajamas! Sorry guys!

You do not give homeschoolers a bad name.:D We are different people who live different lives and make different choices. Honestly, if Handsome didn't leave to work so early, I might start my day later than I usually do. This past week he has been on the later shift. Today he started normal time but will be back and forth for a few more weeks. We still get up early because it is programmed in us and we can't sleep later even if we wanted to sleep in. Plus, he will go back, in a few weeks, to the normal schedule so we do not want to get into the habit of waking later. This is what works for our family.

DITTO~I do the same thing here. :D

I dont have cozy house pants though, jeans or shorts depending on the weather. I use Oil of Olay facial wash for sensitive skin and Everyday Minerals make up and Clinique moisturizer. I feel good when I am showered, hair and make up done.

Up until last year, we had one PJ Day. Now, because we're sleeping later, we do it most days! I take a shower every two-to-three days. I pull my hair back first thing in the morning, though I usually don't actually brush it until later. I can relate to Krista.....

I can so relate. I did not realize that I had no routine until my husband asked me one day if I was ever going to do my hair again! Haha!

I wake up in the morning to see hubby off to work, fix coffee, make breakfast for hubby's return, wake up the girls, feed hubby and girls, keep the girls going and make sure they are dressing and not outside playing with the animals, maybe after school is started I can get dressed, and though my hair up in a hair clip, and brush my teeth.

For the most part now, I try to get my hair done just so my husband does not have to look a this mop with sprigs flying around everywhere.... it takes effort! and some days I don't want to make it. I will make myself look nice when I go somewhere, but not when I am just at home on the ranch where no one will see me!

The other day ds was laughing and said, "People think homeschoolers have school in their pajamas. That's not true." I said, "why are you laughing, because you don't wear pajamas?" He said, "yep, no pajamas." Me: "because your in just underwear." We both started laughing. He is 7, no siblings, and completely content to go around in just underwear until he is going to go outside or see people.
