What does your weekly schedule look like?
I have a 2nd grader and we have school Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri for about 3-4 hours. On Wed we go to the library, do field trips, or do more in depth science projects, or researching on the internet about a subject that really interests him.

We do not keep a schedule. There are subjects that we complete daily and some that we complete every other day. There are set times for choir practices, piano lesson, youth group, and set ministries. I believe that homeschooling is a lifestyle. We school around our life and do not make life rotate around school. We attempt to complete school in the morning and we usually do, however we are more than willing to fit academics in at a later time if something comes up or a fieldtrip is in order.

Our schedule has changed so much this year because of doing the College shuttle with my olders. But we basically are doing school between 9 and 3 I give him certain classes in a list with the info he needs to do before he can play on game or computer stuff.

Sounds like you have a great schedule. I've been playing around with our schedule a lot this year. I like more freedom than a regular schedule, but my kids need some consistency so they hit some things everyday. This is our current schedule:

    9:00-9:30 Bible
    9:30-10:30 Math and Logic
    10:30-11:30 Languages
    11:30-12:30 Language Arts
Lunch - Video from one of the subject areas
    1:10-2:10 PE
    2:20-2:50 Language Arts
    2:50-3:35 History/Geography
    3:35-4:15 Science
    4:15-4:45 Art/Music
    Chore time

These times are approximate and the afternoon is flexible and can be dropped or adapted for doctor's appointments, field trips, or projects. Each subject block is looped.

We do school Mon, Tues, Thurs, Friday. DS has a class Wednesday mornings with other homeschoolers and I get to go to our women's group at church - recharge time!

I don't put times to our schedule, but I have a poster board on the wall, and I've lamenated and velcro'd various titles. Each night before bed I put them on in the order I want to do them. That way we always know what is next (DS likes that). Sometimes he is really into something good in the morning, and I let him run with it for a while before we get started. Also there are times the baby is fussy, so we don't get started on time. I try to start at 9, but sometimes it's closer to 10.

The visual schedule has helped so DS knows what's coming, and he does sometimes negotiate a change in the order. It also helps me so that I don't miss something important in all the caios that can happen here as the day goes on. When DS asks for a change I can quickly see what I had planned and we can change it on the schedule if I agree to that.

We are usually done by lunchtime, unless it was a crazy day with the baby, then we might continue for a while after lunch.

My ds is 10 and in 5th grade. Usually we start the seatwork around 10:30am. One lesson and/or a few practice pages of math, one page of spelling or grammar exercises, some science or history (readings and questions, maybe a written narration), and independent reading for 20 minutes with a narration. We do weekly nature study, Spanish, science experiments (with documentation), and field trip. Academics are done in 2-3 hours.

We're very relaxed and child-led. The rest of the day, if ds isn't hanging with friends, he's doing something creative (making videos, modding nerf guns, going to karate classes, learning myachi, watching youtube tutorials, sketching, making homemade medievel weapons, etc).

We homeschool year around and I have found that this schedule not only works best for me, but that she learns faster and retains more having the traditional days sandwiching the more unconventional days.

Monday and Friday are much the same as to our schedule.

Tuesday is devoted to horses. We spend the morning at a horse barn, feeding and cleaning, mostly but do some grooming, training, and riding whenever possible. The afternoon she has a unit study lesson on the history of the horse.

Wednesday we spend half of the day devoted to handwriting, art, crafts, and creative pursuits.

Thursday is devoted to the history of classical music and French while we drive one hour to her piano lesson, and do grocery shopping and errands throughout the day.

I've been trying to decide if we should school through the summer...maybe just a more relaxed routine than normal.
I'm currently on a waiting list for our areas co-op, which meets once a week for 3 hours. I'm anxiously awaiting that because they offer a parent bible study and other activities while the kids are in classes and it'll be nice to have some 'adult' time :)

    WOW, SEEKING!!! You're REALLY organized!!!

Rachael is on her own, because she's got one on-line class, and two days a week she's at the college.

I call for the kids about 7:30-8 AM, and they all jump in bed with me for a while. I kick them out about a half-hour later. They go downstairs, have breakfast, etc. We start with Rachael playing a praise song on the piano and prayer, then I sit down with Phillip and Faythe and go over their vocabulary. Then I check the kids' work from the day before and give them their assignments for the day. And they're pretty much on their own the rest of the day. What they do when is up to them, as long as they get their work done. Phillip, for some reason, prefers to do his math in the afternoons. They usually finish around 3. Phillip will ask if he's "done with school yet", and I will ask him what he's got everything on his list checked off. I will check his list with him then to see what he forgot. (He tends to forget one or two things, like practicing his piano, or his Bible reading!)

3rd grader - We try to school M-Th. Friday is reserved for anything he did not complete during the week. Fridays are tumble class day for the little one so we generally take her in the morning, do the library, errands, and most of our home school group activities take place on Friday so that may be on the agenda. Mon-Thur: Bible, Language Arts, Math, Reading
    Wed: Guitar lessons also
Once or Twice a week depending on the lesson: Science and Social Studies
If he is on it and not procrastinating he can be done with seat work by lunch.

I only have one problem with schooling in the summer... I wanted to be a teacher as a kid bbecause I get summers off. So if I don't want to work during the sumer months why should I torture my kids with school in the summer. They work harder than regular schools that get out in summer, so why? kwim?
Just sign them up for VBS all over your town? Kids love that, they can interact and have fun craft projects and games and you can get your adult time!

We work through the summer so we are able to take a long break over the holidays. We take a day off if we need it but we like starting the school year earlier so we finish earlier. With that said, Ems still gets a long vacation. It just isn't the usual time that others have their vacation.

I try to have a routine in the summer, but basically we "unschool" from mid-May to the end of August. I really encourage them to pursue hobbies, things they want to learn about, and we spend a ton of time outside. But we put the workbooks and agendas away.

What my kids really need in the summer months is a routine. We still wake up and get dressed by 9 am. Chores still happen on schedule, but lots more outside time and feildtrips. We all go a little stir crazy if the routine is lost or if we spend too much undirected/unproductive time at home. If they are into a project or something then we'll be okay.

I have found we all enjoy our summers off of our official school time - and I get a lot of planning done for the fall!

I guess I kind of do unschooling in summers too all these years, never really thought but we put on VBS and help with/speak at two camps.
This year I am hoping we can break into teams with the tweens campers and challenge them really big time this time. I need to break up my kids who come with me, one still will be a camper but two of them are leaders so they need to have direction.
the other camp we do both teams and craft as well as help with serving food. ( and prayer stuffs)

Homeschool Tracker Plus Edition is what I use to create my schedule and records. I started with the Basic Edition about seven years ago and tried the 30-day free trial of the Plus Edition. I bought it soon afterward. I have used it ever since because it updated for life for free. It is also very versatile, so it can take a bit of experimentation to decide how you might like to use it, but they have a helpful tutorial and forum, AND wonderful customer service! It is worth every penny of the cost.
