A few years ago our mentally handicapped son came home from school in about the 6th grade and told us a young man was picking on him at school. Bill said the kid was calling him names and threatening him. When I went to the school I was calm and told them what was happening. I told them that Bill did not lie and he was afraid of Nick. The VP of the school looked at me and said, "Why, Nick wouldn't do that!" Threat was all he had to offer on the subject. I was so angry but managed not to smack the idiot. Turned out Nick was picking on more than just our son and eventually Bill and Nick turned out to be friends. Thankfully a teacher believed me and Bill and helped us where the VP failed us. Bill had trouble expressing himself due to a stuttering problem and when something happened at school the kids learned they could say Bill did it and the teacher would talk to him and he would get frustrated and cry if he was being falsely accused. They would see that as guilt and he got blamed for a lot when he was little. I had to fight many battles for that kid. He is grown now and still as honest as the day is long. He holds no ill feelings toward anyone who was mean to him and it such a joy to us. I hope the boy in this case does not continue to bare the mental scars of the horrible people who called themselves teachers.
