I just finished making my Police report on this.... While getting ready for the storm, my cousin and I were outside with the kids clearing the garage. We notice a slow moving red van at the end of the street. Then two kids come rolling buy on skates passing out business cards. I told them that they can't do that, that the no soliciting sign out front is real. They tried to stare me down, while I stood there. They took off back up the road and got in the red van. Then the van came BACK down our street. So, I grabbed the cell phone and the high rez digital camera. I took photos of them doing this so that our homeowners association can write a letter to these people informing them that they are not welcome. The red van got closer and closer, and rolled up to take photos of me with the cell phone. Then told me NOW I HAVE YOU MARKED. I called 911 right then, as I continued snapping photos of his van as he drove away. Turns out the Sheriffs Deputy who came out, was the same officer who was here a few days ago when my neighbor left her kids alone. I explained the situation and he agreed that the man crossed the line at that point. So I showed him the photos, they have his photo and his plates and hi min the act of photographing me and speaking to me. The officer said he will drive over there and remind the gentle man that if anything happens to htis house or vehicle or inhabitants that they will be at HIS house FIRST thing. I will NOT back down, Nor will I be AFRAID to defend my neighborhood. Those who ignore SOME rules will ignore ALL rules. Here are the photos of my front yard.. (If you see other people or their vehicles, that is just a coincidence. It is a public area and we can photograph anything in the public!!!)
Jen, that looks very weird. You did the right thing. What a shame you can't be comfortable in your own home. They look Amish??? What were on the business cards. Did you take one? I think I would have taken one and turned that into the police, too. You can't be too careful these days.
Good for you! They should not have been there - especially BEFORE the storm! I bet their cards were for construction of some sort. This totally disgusted us when we were cleaning up after a tornado. People are so devastated after a storm that passing out cards seems very hurtful at the time. We told people that all the help that was there was volunteer and we could use their help if they wanted to join in. I am glad you followed through with this - that will give you that extra protection and keep him away from your neighborhood in the future. Someone who is not willing to stop and at least apologize or explain that he did not mean any harm and then leave probably doesn't need a job in your neighborhood anyway!
WOW! I can not believe the nerve some people have. I'm so glad the officer was nice and able to help you. It always amazes me the stupidity of some people, and the boldness they have about doing what they know they shouldn't be doing.
You have an awesome camera!!!!! Those pictures are as clear as if I was standing right in front of the van!
What did the business card say? That looks like the type of van that the coyotes' around here use to sneak illegals into the US. The one pic where he is holding the camera could be mistaken for a gun. At first I thought he was pointing a gun at you.
wow Jen, you ROCK GIRL, way to go. You have to be ready for anything now days and looks like you were girl. I am so glad you did what you can. You do ROCK GIRL.
I am still amazed with the pictures!!!! I could practically see the pores on the ladies face!!!!!!
I thought it was a gun, too. It was a yard service construction card. The camera is a Nikon D-40 Digital SLR Here is one of these photos BEFORE I cropped it... (I did make it physically smaller because the setting is on poster sized prints and most of you would not be able to view that size...)
we get people passing out business cards for yard clean up and palmtree trimming (we have a very large palm tree) but they don't send kids on skates and that was creepy, you did the right thing.
DH home now and is PISSED. Not at me of course. Seems we will now be getting outside security cameras. But not till after the storm of course. Please pray that this guy was just blowing up hot air.
You really kept cool under pressure. I know you did the right thing. Way to protect your neighborhood and your family. You go girl! Btw, we have a D60 and LOVE it. They take the nicest pics. You really handled that situation very well.
