Claiming any part of homeschool on taxes

I have always claimed all our homeschooling expenses under the Education Expenses credit but may have learned today that you aren't supposed to do that. Anyone have any insight? Thanks!
 
I have a two part answer- according to our accountant homeschool supplies are not tax deductible. Also, I want the government to have no part of our schooling. If they have monetary interest then they will soon have content input.
 
I know some states allow you to claim homeschooling expenses (mine does not). The federal government does not allow you to claim homeschooling expenses.

Yes! If it means them sticking their nose in my homeschooling i dont want it. I just hate that 1500 of my land taxes goes to a school i dont use.
 
We checked into it long ago, and they're not deductible, at least not in Ohio, and definitely not on Federal taxes! And, as others said, I don't to give the federal government any "in" to my homeschool!
 
In my state, you're supposed to be able to take some expenses off your state taxes, but the amount is so small, I've never bothered.
