My daughter is fifteen years old, nowadays nothing is going well for her. From early childhood, she is very much concerned about cleanliness. She used to wash the plates which my wife has already washed. Also, she is having a habit of washing her hand often. She is obsessed with dirt and contamination. I hadn’t given much attention to it. For about a week she is suffering from gum recession. I think vigorous brushing is the cause for it. She is having the habit of over brushing too. I am going to book an appointment for gum disease treatment from a clinic in Mississauga ( http://www.parkerhilldental.com/our-services/gum-treatment/ ). But I have no idea about how to make changes in her habits. Can anyone help me with some ideas?
I think your daughter has OCD. People with OCD hope that doing compulsions will prevent the bad things they worry about from happening. by doing those rituals, she is trying to relieve anxiety, feel safe, or prevent that "certain something" from happening. better take her to your GP and have her check for the correct diagnosis
Yeah. I agree with Natalie. She may have OCD. It's better to get her checked by a professional before her obssessive compulsions on cleanliness get worse.
Channel her obsessions with cleanliness to something useful. For example, allow her to clean her room or any part of the house.
