restricted area?

No, you're just less likely to be a troublemaker if you have stuck around that long. :) We have occasional trouble with people come in and starting offensive debates/arguments/and other assorted unpleasantness. So the moderators made a restricted area so people could write very personal prayer requests, etc, that newcomers can't see. Generally the folks who are going to cause trouble do it before the 30 days are up, so they never get a chance to wreak havoc in there. Does that make sense?

Yes, that helps. Thank you! I was worried it was that it was sending a message that you have to be in the "in" group to participate in Christianity/discussions about it, sending the wrong message to those seeking. Thank you for your time.

I might also say that if you have a prayer request and haven't been around long enough to make it to a restricted area, PLEASE feel free to post it in the "Other Conversation" forum! It's not our desire to leave anyone out, but as Marylyn said, it's to protect us from lurkers and trolls.

Ditto what the other ladies said. Every new member has the same restriction so you havent been singled out.

It actually has nothing to do with trolls, etc. since there is a Christian area open to everyone. There should be two options visible: a restricted area and a non-restricted area. I think that was the original intention, so if it isn't showing up let me know. If I remember correctly, the restricted area was put in place because members wanted a place where they could discuss more sensitive issues that they didn't want indexed by google or visible to everyone in the world. :?:

This would be the non-restricted area:

and this is the restricted area:

Can you see the non-restricted area, carolynsmom?

I found an old post of mine explaining the restricted areas:
Reminder: Homeschool Spot, like other sites on the net, is a public forum that anyone is welcome to read. In order to post, one only needs to register with a valid email address. The openness of the forum encourages the exchange of ideas and discussion.

Not long ago a member requested a more private area for the forum where members could post without worrying about information being fully public. As a result, I have added a semi-private area to the forum.

Please remember that while the forum will be more private than the main forums, it is still readable by anyone who has been a member for at least 30 days and has 50 posts. I would caution you not to include more personal information than you have included in the past. You should still think of it as a public place. Before the restriction, you were hs'ers sitting in a public park talking where anyone could overhear what you were saying. Now, think of it like being in a large room where anyone in the room can hear what you are saying.

Thank you for your explanation, Amanda! I'll look at the Christian area more closely-when I went on before, I think it said it is a restricted area to read or post replies, but I could have overlooked the public section.
