Teaching Textbooks math

Have a few questions about it and hoping someone here will help. We're looking at doing 4th grade, even though he'll be skipping the first few lessons bc it's stuff he KNOWS. He's in 3rd grade, but scored very well on the 4th gr placement test.
The q's I have are as follows:
1. Do you need an internet connection or is everything on the CD's?
2. Can you skip lessons or will it count against them? In SOS L Arts when I try to skip the spelling quizzes it only gives the option to grade it a 0. (Not happy about that!)
3. Is the workbook exactly like the CD's or are they laid out differently? I'm wondering how useful the books will actually be.

well I never got tt for the girls that young. But, I can answer some of your question no you don't internet connection the cd's have everything.
I guess you can skip lesson, but I never let the girls told them it was just refreshing there little minds just go through fast.
workbook, had more problems to do which I thought they needed.
 
Phillip is doing 5th grade right now. No, you don't need an internet connection. Yes, you can skip lessons. I know, because we do it, especially in the beginning. We start math by doing the quizzes until the grade drops from 90's to the 70's. Why make them "learn" what they already know? But the problem I found with this is that, if you have an older TT, you cannot RETAKE the test!

No internet connection is needed. EVERYTHING is on CD's.

There is an internal gradebook but no one sees it but you. So if you skip lessons, I don't think it matters.

You COULD just do quizzes until they hit a road block, then start with those lessons.

Workbook is optional. I choose to get it so that my kids don't have to rewrite out the stuff to do the work, but it is exactly the same as the CD's....the lecture is almost word for word in the workbook too.

I know you didn't ask, but in SOS you can go in a delete any assignments you want so that you can skip them and not get a zero! HTH
 
This all sounds great! He did the example//demo lessons for 4th gr yesterday and seemed to like it quite a bit. :) Now, to come up with that extra $115! lol

Since you mentioned it, how can I go in and delete an assignment? I have looked and looked but can't find a place to do that without it marking it a 0% and bringing his grade down. :( Thanks for the help!

ETA: I am planning on letting him do each quiz until he hits one that he doesn't understand. I'm with some of you - why make him relearn what he's just learned? :)
 
I will do my best to explain the SOS delete thing. I am not good at explaining on the computer, but here we go. If you don't understand I am willing to help over the phone, you can just PM me.

1. Go to your part of SOS, the Teacher part.
2. Go to Lesson Plans-Assignments
3. Go to the subject that you want to delete a Quiz in.
4. Go to "Edit Subject" it's at the bottom left.
5. Find which folder the quiz is in
6. Click on the "t"
7. High light which quiz it is
8. Click on "Remove" it's at the bottom left
9. Then click on save.

It's easier then it may look above. Let me know how it goes or if you need more help.
 
Mom24boys, thanks!!! I'm having fits with SOS for Faythe! Absolutely hate it, partly because I don't find it user-friendly AT ALL! That will help, I'm sure!!!

Let me know if you have any questions. I didn't find it usuer friendly at all either, but after 1 1/2 yrs. maybe I got it now.
