Amazing Striped Icebergs in the Antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions. Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with meltwater and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form. When an iceberg falls into the sea, a layer of salty seawater can freeze to the underside. If this is rich in algae, it can form a green stripe. Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea. That's what it is like in Antarctica where it is the coldest weather in decades. Water freezes the instant it comes in contact with the air. The temperature of the water is already some degrees below freezing. Amazing! http://www.aad.gov.au/default.asp?casid=24046
OK my turn: we were at the zoo yesterday, and the giraffs (at least the male) was in the mating mood...... I guess when he was done he had to take a leak...... wich cought the eye of the kids because it went on for about 5 minutes.......... we also saw the female pee so now the kids LEARNED THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN how a girl and a boy giraffe goes pee (we distracted them with the monkeys while the giraffes were having "grown up time")
My turn!!! I've learned that nothing has changed in 150 years. When the Transcontinental Railroad was being built, the guys in charge of building it from the West Coast got to Utah. By that time, many of thier employees had deserted for the gold fields, and they were in danger of not finishing. So they contacted Brigham Young and the Mormons. Turns out there had been some locusts come through that destoyed crops, famine, etc. and the Mormons jumped at the chance to work. Plus, they were excellent workers, and their camps were quiet and peaceful, compared to the rowdy camps of the other workers. But the company only paid them half of the agreed amount, because they "didn't have the money". HOWEVER, the investors that year were paid 300% dividends. (And the group heading from the East wasn't any more upright than this group!)
Ah man!!! I've seen pics of giraffes mating - and always wanted to see it - it seems soooo cool since they are such enormous animals!! We would be right there watching - no monkeys for us!
