Does anyone use these. I have not purchased any, we do use one for all our library books. I do see several people at the grocery stores using these though. Is anyone planning on buying any type of reuseable bag to do grocery shopping with?

Here are few links for some, though they do not have to be these kind, any cloth bag would do.

I only use cloth grocery bags. Most of the bags I have are from Chico Bags, but they are pricey (I got mine cheap through a co-op). I LOVE everything about them other than the initial investment.

I forgot to put them back in the van after a recent trip to the store, so I bought some of the cloth bags the grocery stores sells. They worked just fine, and I'd rather have so extras than deal with the plastic nasties.

I use cloth- many are different totes I accumulated when I was a teacher, so I didn't have to make that initial investment. I haven't seen any "green bags" but my local Krogers has some that are thinner cloth for a dollar or two and they are blue- maybe their own brand?

When I say 'Green', I mean 'any' reuseable cloth bag. One you take with you and tote your items back and forth.

If whole foods or any other store truly wanted to make a difference, to encourage people that are hooked on plastic to switch to cloth bags... they should go back to the way cigarette companies, and well EVERY company used to do things back in the 40's and 50's... GIVE AWAY anything with their LOGO on it.

I will use a cloth bag. But I will NOT pay to buy their bag that advertises them. That's almost as bad as paying to buy hundreds of one product, only to save up enough points to buy another of their products that simply advertises for them for FREE... (Coke, Camel Cigarettes, Pepsi, etc.....)

But not against cloth bags, of course.... Just free advertisement... or paying to advertise for them...

there is a new product called something like green bags and they are for keeping produce fresher longer. I could see why some one would get confused.

however I've seen pastel colored bags (that come in a little carying case like you put your unbrella in)...... for a dollar at Jo-anns they had no words on them. But the 99cent store sells them too here. (but then they have that logo on them.)

I have a few from our grocery store and a huge one from Half-Price Books. I don't like the names on them either. Makes me feel weird about taking them into another store.

I have a ton of bags I've bought from different grocery stores. My favorites are my two Trader Joes bags. Big, sturdy. I also have 4 or 5 from Whole Foods...their cheapy ones. 1 from Giant.

I reuse all the time. They know me at my grocery store and wait for me to hand them the bags!

Also, I love having them b/c at Aldi's when I go there, you HAVE to bag your own.

I like that they are now cheap enough that if ones wear out you can buy new ones. Although, None of mine have worn out yet. :D

Wal Mart started selling these a little while ago. I bought 10 (they charged $1.00 per bag) and I use them all the time now. The cashiers have been pretty good about it. I can tell some of them don't want to do it, but they are doing it none-the-less.

I enjoy having a sturdier bag to hold all my goodies, not to mention how much larger they are, and of course the obvious reason.

This is what the Chico Bags look like. They have about 20 colors to choose from. Everything from black to hot pink. Mine are either the color in the picture or a dark brown. Some of my friends went nutty and bought like one of each color. I stuck with matching. I'm a nerd like that.

The little pocket in front is what the bag looks like when you put it away. The pouch itself is stuck on the inside of the bag, so you don't have to worry about losing it. You just stuff it in when you're done. I LOVE the caribener (sp?) that's on each bag. I clip them to themselves, or clip a couple to my purse strap if I'm not buying a lot. Then they are always together than I'm not losing them around the house/van.

They are definately worth the money (I think if you pay retail, they are $5, but if you get a minimum order of around 100 together for a co-op, you can get them for $2.50ish). But it's still a big bite all at one time to get the 10 or so you'd need to do your shopping.

We are going to go to the craft store and get our own canvass bags and color them ourselves.

I just don't want to be an unpaid bulletin board for anyone, even if I do love their store. I just feel like a sucker.

I think George Carlin got to me. He once spoke about how only suckers pay to wear clothing emblazoned with a company's logo.... I actually never thought about it till he mentioned it. But I never could forget it, once I heard it. But he was right. If they want me to have a coke-a-cola hat, they can give them away. Same with the bags...

Target, Costco, and IKEA have them. I bought one from IKEA and love it. I use it for laundry, when we go to the park, pool, etc.

The Wal Mart bag is not an advertisement for them.

    It simply says....

    "Paper or Plastic?
    Neither.

    recycled/reusable"

The ones our local Price Cutter sells are just red. And yes, the Chico Bags have their logo on them, but that's the only product they sell. So really, in my mind, it's no different than driving a Ford truck with the Ford logo on it. The whole thing is a Ford "ad" anyhow.

I don't struggle too much with the advertising part of it. I mean, I use my Trader Joes bag in whatever store I'm in. I don't care! LOL :D I get funny looks sometimes, but, whatever!

The only people that really see them are the checker and me (oh, and my kids)...the rest of the time they are in my car.

Our library bags we got from Michaels and decorated our selves...

I don't use my advertising bags for anything but grocery and other shopping.

Our Walmart, however, won't use the reusable bags b/c they have their plastic sacks on a spinner thingy. It makes it really hard for the checkers. Sad. :( I try not to shop there much because of it...or I offer to pack them myself....they are not to keen on that, either.

Anyway...I totally get your point J/E, regarding the advertisement. I guess it just never bothered me much before. I didn't buy the bags because of where I got them. I bought them for how I'd use them.

I do agree with George Carlin if you're buying something just because it has that certain thing on it...then SUCKER!

Of course, I wear noname 2nd hand jeans from a thrift store, and such....so labels are not important to me at all...good or otherwise! LOL :D

Ours wouldn't either. Not even after Walmart started selling the bags. So I called the corporate office and complained. They said that the checker HAS to bag the groceries in whatever bags I bring. They called the store manager and pointed that out to him ;). I haven't had a problem since. Now, sometimes the checker will just put everything in the cart as she scans it and I have to bag it, but that's better than using plastic bags.

Then again, I shop at Walmart only rarely, so it's not a big deal to me.
