What a day! We were sitting out in the yard watching Babyboy play and a strange car turned into our driveway and of course I thought Joshua was here. But it was my one and only nephew! He is here from Texas for a few days. It was so good to see him. Still no word from Joshua. I did finally get word from the doctor about Crystal and it is not good news but not bad yet. We have to go see a specialist at a major hospital about an hour from here. I am trying not to assume the worse but of course it is in my mind. Then tonight my older sister tells me that Crystal overheard me on the phone saying something about her only being 15 and she thinks it means she is really sick. I was talking about her going to the prom when I said that she was only 15! So my sister thinks I need to tell her more about what is really going on. I haven't talked to Freddy about it yet. I think my sister is right and I may go ahead and talk to Crystal tomorrow. I didn't tonight because my grandson is spending the night and I want to talk to her without anyone listening or bothering us. I am not going to mention the biopsy yet just that they are checking out a spot they saw on the left side of her thyroid. Keep her in your prayers please. Beth

    Enjoy your nephew!!!:D

I agree about not mentioning the biopsy. You wouldn't want to worry her about it before its time. She is still in my prayers.

Beth, I am so sorry you have to go through all of this, but I don't think I would keep anything from her, I think I would tell her what the doctor is telling you, and even about the biposy. You want her to come to you and trust you. If she finds out you knew and didn't tell her it might up set her. Just tell her as little as you can saying they are planning on doing this test and that test and the reason for the test are? Let her know we are all praying for her. But, remember she is smart and more then likely knows alot more then you think.
We are here for you all.

I am sorry to take so long to get back to everyone about Crystal. They are sending us to a specialist in the cancer center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. We go two weeks from today. Freddy can't get off work that day without risking his job, so our oldest son is going to go with me. I asked him to go because if we get bad news I may need him there. I feel like it is so long until we go but I know the time will fly by before I want it to. I dread the waiting and dread the possibility of hearing bad news. Please continue to pray for my Crystal. Thank you all, Beth

We haven't told her a lot yet. She knows something is wrong with her thyroid and that she is going to see a specialist. She doesn't know he is in the cancer center. She knows her birth mother is dying and that her cancer started as thyroid cancer. She doesn't know they will probably do a needle biopsy. I plan on telling her a little bit more soon, but not on the weekend. Freddy isn't home until late on weekends. I want him here when I tell her. I don't want to scare her but I know how she is and she will be so upset over the biopsy. She is terrified of needles. Please keep the prayers coming for her. Thanks, Beth

Today is the day we see the doctor at the cancer center. I am trying to believe this is going to be nothing, but I am so scared because her birth mom's cancer started in her thyroid. My son in law won't even discuss the possibility that we may get bad news. He lost his dad to brain cancer less than 4 years ago. Freddy won't talk about it at all. Katie, one of my older daughters, is the only one I feel like I can talk to about it right now. She is going with us today. Our oldest son was going to go but he had a kidney stone two nights ago and he had to work last night. He is a cop and works from 6pm to 6am so he is pretty worn out. I would rather Katie went anyway because Crystal is so close to her. I know I am rambling but my nerves are about to get the best of me. I better just go for now. Please pray for my daughter today. In case anyone doesn't know, Crystal is 15 and there is something in the left lobe of her thyroid. Thanks guys. Beth

(((HUGS))) to you and Crystal! You know we are praying for you. I hope you have a safe trip. Btw, how is Emily reacting to all of this? I know it must be hard on both of the girls.

ETA: What time is the appt so we can send up extra prayers at that time?!

I think that kids should know whats going on because it keeps them from thinking the worst. When Donald had cancer he was only 2 1/2 but we had to explain it to the best he could understand, at 15 I would think that she could understand more.
