HAs anyone seen this online where you can see inside? I tried CBD but its not yet on thier list that I could see.
I have looked first hand at the books at a park day but want to show inside to dh. It claims to be for jr high but actually covers the same stuff ds had in his JR in HIghschool grade level. But it is written for kids, so its apearence is younger.
The way it is set up is very cool too. It made me want to get the whole set up even if the co op does not use it....

Okay I am replying to my own thread, I kept searching and searching and the main web site has some to look at its Gravitas. I think you all should check it out! Also Amazon has some
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/097650975X/ref=sib_dp_pt#
    it is way cool!
IF that link works, you will see the way it is put together, a sample of the lessons, its colorful and helpful with terms and everything!
Teacher Manuel also has great helpful information for people lik eme who took Chemistry like what about 30 years ago? lol, I just know it was in my Canada days heheh,

I have looked at this for my 2nd grader/pre-k student. I really like the looks of the pre-chem and pre-bio; it looks easy to implement! The only reservation I have is the cost versus the amount of lessons. But I'm still talking myself into it...:)

    Here's their site: http://www.gravitaspublications.com/

Go to 'Products'. They list samples in there. We're using the Real Science 4 Kids Pre-level Biology book for our 5 & 6 year olds.

Here is also the auther's website. She sells it for less and offers free shipping! :) She also has nice samples of it too!

Teacher Mom--It looks like the Jr.High Levels are new, but maybe if you called she might have them? Her site seems to sell for much less...Edited:She does have them!

Shelley--Do you like it a lot? I would like to do science once a week and think this would work!!

We just bought it this month at the book fair. We really liked the looks of it and the lab books/projects. I read a bit in it and have really found it promising.

For example, to explain how cells work, they describe how milk gets from the cow to the dairy to the stores and how all the different people do different jobs. It was really a cool analogy, and the illustrations were very engaging.

So, I can't say that I love it yet--- since we're planning on starting it in a few weeks--- but I can definitely say we like the looks of it!

    THank you all!
I think this is the one I want. reading some of the reviews I read of two supposed college professors who have used it with thier own children. one who says it is college level information on a childs level, and that was level 1! Wow!
    It seems good to me.

I just bought the whole level one set (grades 4-6) and looked everywhere for it cheaper, but this website Spinning mentions was the best price - although it was still $190  !

I have a RN friend whose husband is a doctor and this is what they use with their kids. To me it looks hard, but she said her 3rd grader did fine with it moving slowly through Chemistry 1 in one year and her 5th grader did all 3 subjects (chemistry, physics and biology) in just over a year.

My 6th grade daughter seriously wants to be a vet, and she is going to have to be great in these science disciplines to "survive" in the highly competitive world of vet school applications so I want to give her a good foundation, so she's doing them all next year.

Jill, so does this mean it will only take about half a year to do the Chem 2?
From looking at the table of contents and all...
ALso did you get the roots book? I am ordering that along with chem 2 cause I think it is important and some of the extras with it...
What all did you order in the "complete set" in level 1?

Really am hoping this will work for my high school Chem lessons with dd... anyone out there that thinks otherwise please let me know if they know what I could suplement with? Who are the science peoples on this list? I know we have some .... Also I think I could increase the level of it with stronger chemical experiments as well as the ones they suggest, and have dd follow the same Lab questions with her other experiments? I am hoping ds who aced his Chemistry this year and did a Chem project for Science Fair that got him a 1st place will help with some of it as well. She is already excited about it at this point and was learning teh table of elements etc with ds to help him study for a test.... so hopefully it will work I really like the look of things!

I'm not sure how long it would take...I guess it depends on how much time you spend on science and how quickly they work.
The website says the level one books are each 10 weeks long doing science once or twice a week, so even working at a minimum (we do science 3 or 4 times a week) , you should be able to finish in 30 weeks - 10 for each chemistry, physics and biology.
I haven't checked the website about the level 2 books yet, maybe it gives an idea.

The complete set had all 3 kid's texts, a combined teacher manual for all 3 subjects, a lab book for each subject and a language connects book for each subject. I think the language part is useful too and we already do Latin roots anyway. I will probably have to order extra lab books for my other child.

Thanks, cool. Hey I love your web site btw! Can I have my dh link to your site from mine?
We are working on updating some links on it cause I am having to be taught how to update it myself with my dh being so busy all the time lately.

I purchased the Pre-level 1 Biology and Chemistry and the whole Level 1 package. I can't wait to get them in the mail and look them over.

Jill, I just read on the site that you can make copies from the cd, teacher manuel? here I will cut and paste...
"Biology Level I first edition was released in electronic format and is currently available as a closeout item. Each disk will be licensed for use by the entire family, allowing an economic alternative to textbooks. You may print any number of copies necessary for your family teaching needs, or work right from the computer. Both Biology 1 second edition and Physics 1 are available in print edition"

I thought their level 2 science was Jr. high level??? You'd really have to add to it to make it worth REAL highschool credit I'm thinking! **At this point I went to help my mom with something, and when I got back, my dd was sitting at the computer and told me she finished my message for me. Here's what she typed:

    chocolate is good! :D

Anyway, back to science.........The chemistry part is only going to be about 10-12 weeks I believe, so then what will you do with the other 20 some weeks?

You could look at Spectrum Chemistry. It's expensive though! BUT, it comes with EVERYTHING you need for the experiments and things, and is definitely highschool level.

Highschool is tough if you're trying to make sure you teach to credit value for highschool! I'm trying to save enough to get that for my ds next year, or maybe this year, we'll see.

I looked up Spectrum all I find is not much, I saw a scope and sequence of it, and it has 31 pages of lab and 60 lessons. Maybe I can do both? the first half the one and the second half the other?

    http://www.cambridge.org/catalogue/catalogue.asp?isbn=9780521549226

IS this what you mean? This came up on a College web site? so maybe I am looking for the wrong thing?

Okay DEENAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....Hows this sound.... 10weeks for REal and then we switch over to Spectrum which will take 18 weeks , dd figured out.. adds up to 28 weeks and we have 36 weeks fo school.... the RS4k would be great to give both of us a clue about what in the world Chemistry is ( I can remember a lot of elements and what to do but honestly there are so many new chemicals to learn about I want to enjoy this)
And then do the what seems to be College level Chem 3 with Spectrum which would give us really deep study on the elements and chemcials and get really deep in it?
Lol I have posted more than anyone else on my own thread hahaahaha, I am having so much research though its not funny! hehe

I found the Rainbow Science at a great price (used---just have to buy refill kits, or whatever they're called) from someone for my dd.

The Spectrum Chemistry is at this site, that's the one I was talking about, though the other ones look interesting as well. This one just looks like it has it all organized and set out for you....

Yep thats the site I went to too, eventually but it still looks like I could do both, one is more clear what things mean and why you would want to study it than the other. Dd thougth the humor in the spectrum one was good though.
If they do the Co Op it will be with the rs4k, so we will need it too. ANd since they both have partial year amounts of lessons I think its do able.
    thanks for your help!
