I want to do an Olympics lapbook. But I am not sure if I wanna do the one on currclick or if I wanna make our own. I buy from currclick, so that is not a problem, but I am dealing with 7 year olds in second grade, who have never seen the Olympics, so everything will be new to them. SO if you have done this lapbook click here let me know if you think it can be used with second graders or is it just for older kids??? :?:
I wanted to add that I ask, because the preview doesn't really give a hint, like the other previews do, you cant see the activities, it just looks like a unit study which is not really the same is it?
http://www.homeschoolshare.com/summer_olympics_2008_lapbook.php If you try this link you will find a brand new free unit and lapbook that looks great. Plus it is free so you can use what works for you. I plan on doing this with my DD7.
Thanks! I had nt thought to do so much on it but chose to after looking at the homeschool share! MY printer is prining away! This is great!
Okay , this is so cool cause I want to have ds's birthday an Olympic Theme and I am collecting things all summer for it, we are going from park to park, now I am thinking each park can be a different country maybe? Yes I am getting help from othe rparents on this one! hehe! they were just going to ride bikes from one to the next but I decided ther will be a "Track and Feild Event" a Baseball throw or ( Shot Put) and Running, maybe throw a discus ( frizbee) too! I got these cool ideas from your links, so before I steal your thread sorry, gulp, I wanted to say....THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the link! I can't get the China Map page though, cuz I am not a member of that site. That's ok, I can find that somewhere else.
TeacherMom- we usually do an Olympics theme meal on opening night and it is fun. I made homemade pizzas on cookie sheets and used the pepperoni to make the Olympic rings on each pizza. (It was Italy so pizza fit!) Also, I decorated a cake with white frosting and used colored M&M's to make the rings. Very cute. (I got those ideas from Taste of Home magazine). We had Greek burgers for Athens; and I am thinking of doing something Chinese this time. I had a recipe for making our own fortune cookies a LONG time ago- and have been searching for that. That would be fun to involve the kids in. Just a thought.... the cake worked out really well. MT3
I Love the cake idea, I could do the rings in the middle and make a track around the outside with lego runners on it even!
http://www.notgrass.com/olympics.php This came in my email this am, it looks super! I am considering getting it as a supplement for history for ds10
HEY! I did this too!!! I used to subscribe to the magazine! How funny...of course, I did mine on brownies, not a cake. Oh I frosted them....but....i love brownies! LOL Gotta remember to do this this year!!!
By the way Jennifer- whatever you decide to use I think it will be a great learning experience for your kids. We are going to study China in July I think, and then turn towards the Olympics themselves in August. For my eight-year old I have been gathering ideas for a lapbook (thanks for the other links gals!!)- and I think we are going to make a big flap in the shape of a tennis shoe and put the different track events underneath. On the other side I think we will make a big flap of swim goggles, and put the water events under that. I would also like to make three medal-shapes and have him color them gold, silver and bronze and keep a medal count for several different countries. Those can be flaps or in a pocket- not sure yet! For older kids in previous Olympics I have made word scrambles of the different events that they had to unscramble, and also wordsearches (thanks puzzlemaker!). Just a couple of ideas I am kicking around! MT3
I think what's really cool for us this year is that we'll be hosting a Chinese Exchange student who will be here until the day after opening ceremonies! So we'll be "studying' China anyway! LOL
Okay, I stole your idea! Track and Water Events Shape Books If you don't want to use them, that's fine, but I thought it was a great idea! If you want to email me your name, I will give you credit in the unit. Ami
I had never even heard of lapbooking before until coming back to this board! (Joined here in 2006, went inactive for a while, and then recently started coming back around.) What a neat idea! I think we're going to start doing this too. Thanks for all the ideas. . .the thread starter, and the ideas that followed.
I'm glad you found this thread. This is the site that I tried to tell you about on the other thread for Olympics. It's one of them anyway. I'm still unable to do links because I'm a newbie, so I was unable to give you the direct link. This is an awesome site and if you look around, you'll find LOTS of goodies!! ~E~
Kids and I have just started gathering info on China and the Olympics, (doing China 1st)...and just found out that the Olympics wont be shown over here...*sad*
Wow is there anyway you can get it through the internet tv satalite anything? I love watching certain events, gymnastics, track and feild, that sort of thing... hey that just gave me another week of olympic games! Gymnastics! Wee hoo! I think this week is my throwing events....then we have "water events" waterslide to get a balloon with portion of a memory verse in it.... its actually a slip n slide and we have to take the group to the park to do it!
