Wow, what a relief to get rid of that orange counter! Looks like he did a great job! I'd be so excited too!
We have thought of getting rid of our orange counter tops many times. I have priced new counter and they are not to bad, I have never priced tiling. We have a lot less space then you. My kitchen is so dark. I do have the walls painted white which helps a little. But we also have dark cabinets. Maybe a project my young man would enjoy in the future. Mommy would love a new kicthen and he loves working with his hands. Maybe in a few years we will have the money and he will be old enough to do it. Tell your son its looking great!!!
Our tiles were cheaper than buying a new counter. We also got some undercabinet lighting that we still have to install. Our cabinets are 1970 cabinets and very dark. In fact they don't even match with regard to color. Quick-easy-cheap cabinet make over: Scuff the original cabinets with sand paper or a Chore Boy. Primer with 2 coats on satin paint, paint 3 coats of color and now you have new cabinets. 2 gallons of paint with lots left over, $20.00! Ds is spraying the doors in the garage right now. We painted the rest with sponge brushes. You can paint all of if with a sponge brush. I will post more pics when done.
It's done except for the new range hood. I don't know why the pics turned out so yellow but in the previous pics you can see the true color. #3 pic shows the true color! The shelves on the wall were also made by my ds. It is beeeutiful!
WOW!! GREAT JOB! You have the same stove we had! Ours is on the porch right now...awaiting sale on Craigslist...but it EXACTLY the same, colors and everything!!! It looks beautiful...does it give you renewed joy to cook?
What a beautiful kitchen and WOW, your DS is very talented! What a great gift in your kitchen and in your son. Congratulations!
I LOVE to cook! I just love how light a large my kitchen feels now. Before it was a very dark hole with lots of shadows. My ds has a love of being creative and building things. For example, the shelves he build to hang on the wall. He thought the ones at the store were too pricey so he made them out of the left over wood from his kitchen project for free. He is only 17! We don't have the money for new appliances for new cabinets. I think his imagination and a little bit of hard work did a miracle on my kitchen! Kitchen make over for $600.00!
Katie, I don't think that boy will have any trouble finding work.. He will make a girl happy one day. Wow, I know whom I am calling when I need work done. Also, love the picture were the cat is looking in the oven like where is the food.
Well, Katie, I just thought I'd drop in to see how the kitchen was coming along, and I'm still in shock! This is awe-inspiring! Happy congratulations!
Dh and ds' removed all the carpet from our house to help my asthma. The first pic is of our dining room, dh and ds' did the new Pergo in the dining room together. They learned how to do it from the Home Depot guy and from the book we bought. Mature Pine is the name of this floor. Ds' wanted to do the living room by themselves, the second pic is of the new living room floor done in Pergo. Salem Oak in the living room.
Wow your son did a wonderful job! I know how hard it is to do remodeling because we have been remodeling our home for what seems like forever. We just do a little at a time (limited funds) but it is getting better. We have done everything from subfloors to pergo, new electrical, plumbing, pretty much the works. Its such hard work but its SO worth it. Hopefully it will be finished in a few years LOL. Your son really did a great job with that backsplash and counter. Hopefully my dh will finish mine soon, we have the lumber in the shed. I wanted mine to be bead board if we ever get to finishing it. I like that primitive country look, I think its not "in" anymore, but I still like it.
