My youngest ds wanted to give a gift to my dh and I for our birthdays this month. He decided he wanted to re-do our kitchen himself. He is 17.

Anyway, all the orange counters had to be removed and a new counter re-built and then he started installing the ceramic tiles. The one pic shows the new tiles but it is not finished yet. It looks so good!

After the counter is finished he is going to re-finish the cabinets so they are a lot lighter.

The attached pics are what my very talented 17 year old son has done in the past 5 days.

Your son rocks, he is completely awesome. What a thoughtful present for him to do for you and your DH. The tile is so pretty.

It does look good! Does your ds want to come to my house? We could use some tile work in the bathroom. The previous owners did a shabby job of replacing the floors, so we'll probably have to redo them again.

This is his first time tiling. He learned from a book!
You know you are a homeschool mom when your ds learns how to tile from a book!

He and his brother installed Pergo last summer in our house. They also learned that from a book.

Amy I thought my house was the last of the orange counters! My kitchen was sooooo dark, the new tiles have really lightened it up a lot. The cabinets are going to be a lot lighter along with under cabinet lighting.

I know I posted a shameless mommy brag, but laying all those tiles himself and building the counter from scratch is so awesome especially because he is only 17. d

WOW! Your son is awesome! BRAG AWAY! I am very impressed. I only wish I could hire him to do my kitchen. Let him know if he is ever in Ohio, he has a job! I need my whole kitchen done. He may want to wait until next year at tax return time though. LOL. Maybe he can teach my dh a few things! LOL. Oh my bathroom could use a new floor also...lol....yep...a summer in ohio is looking better and better...maybe help pay for a car or school or whatever...hmmm???? What do ya think??? LOL.

    Thank you!

My ds' bedroom had a terrible floor. It had been damaged by water and put back together in a ridiculous manner. We had the material to fix it, just dh ever had the time to fix it. My ds asked if he could replace his own floor. I told him, "Go for it"!

Within the day he had the damaged floor completely removed down to the stringers, so we could see the dirt under the house. He replaced the entire floor and it is awesome! Dh came home from work and was so surprised. My 17 year old has always had a love for figuring out how to fix things and building things. It shows in his abilities. Last summer he built a garage for his Vette and his dad helped him.

He built a fence last summer with his other brother and they did an awesome job!

We are building another fence with the next month and he will also be doing that.

And I have 2 daughters! LOL. Well, they are kinda young for your sons...they are 10 and 2. I will have another in July! LOL. Guess I will just hope they find boys like your sons. (mostly because the mil will always need some work done around the house...the fil is not handy!)

    Updated Pics

Here are some pics that we took today. Ds got the tile counter and grouting done. He took the doors off the cabinets (doors showed a 1970 sticker) and he primed and painted the cabinets and the doors are hanging outside in the garage. He is painting those with the paint sprayer. The oven hood will also be repainted to match.

Only one wall has been painted in the new color and that is the pic with the tiles on the wall. The rest of the kitchen will be painted tomorrow. The doors will be hung tomorrow when dry. Looks like my new kitchen is coming along.

I included the original pic so you can see the difference.

Today is my birthday and I am enjoying my gifts!
