We just watched the speech.. I don't think Garrett could tell me 3 words of it... since he didn't pay attention for crap... but he can tell you all about the limo that Obama rode in this morning.

We just watched it too and since Brody is doing 20th century American history this year, I thought it was really fitting that we did. He asked a lot of tough questions (I think I need an American Government refresher!) but I think he really enjoyed it. Right up until the part where I assigned him to go write a report about what he saw and what he learned and what it made him think about :)

I couldn't believe how many people were there! We live just outside D.C. and three of my friends from church were playing for the ceremony, one in the President's Marine Band, and two in the Navy Band so that was a very neat part of the ceremony for us as well.

We turned the tv on early this morning and watched everything. We talked about what was going to happen and what it meant while we ate breakfast. Then I let Sam do her school work in the living room while we watched. I gave her some fun pages to do that corresponded to the inaguration.

What did she learn? I'm not sure but she did pay attention and watched it all. She enjoyed it and asked questions.

My kids didn't follow the poem afterwards...... they seemed more amazed by the #'s of people there!

We live 45 minutes away so it's all over the place around here and all anyone has talked about.

HOwever - we are working on the lapbook they started yesterday - so we WILL finish that.

I have to admit, I couldn't follow the poem! It was one of those things that bores me to tears.

I am giving it a few hours then I am going to be hunting up the words to the President's speech. We WILL read that later today, and then we will be doing the lapbook tomarrow.. and well the rest of the week too.

I was kind of proud of how well my kids sat through all of that. Dumb me...I thought it started at 10. So they sat through a lot of preliminaries that they didn't need to see. I did end up letting them go play for a while til the actual ceremonies began.

They thought it was funny when Obama stumbled over his words during the oath. That's boys for ya!

I can't say that they learned anything new, because we covered a lot during the election. But it was the first time they ever saw an inauguration so that was good.

Oh, and the poem...What I got from it was that our country is made up of very different people doing very different, yet ordinary, things each day. And that despite our different focuses, today brought everyone together. (?)

Tiff, I kind of thought it made NO sense.. so after the first few lines I was DONE.

Kari, I thought Obama himself was gonna bust out laughing, but again, that is boys for ya ;)

I don't really know right now what my kids learned, but I made them watch it. They were amazed at the numbers of people and thought it was neat to see. I let my kids play with wooden blocks and eat their snack while we watched it. My 8 year old son said he was going to build the White House with a windmill next to it. My 5 y.o. dd saw a shot of the Capitol building in D.C. and exclaimed, "We were there!" I had to explain to her that our State Capitol building looks similar, but it's not the same one.

Y'all do realize that Obama isn't the one who messed up right??

I initially thought he stumbled over the words too but later found out that it wasn't him but the cheif justice that messed up. He told Obama the wrong thing to say. Obama paused like "hey dude that is wrong!"

Diane Sawyer reported that while they were all preparing for the luncheon. They played it over again then.

DD8 could care a less about the new president. DH and I talked to her about it last night and I again today. I even downloaded the freebie of Presidential Inauguration from Currclick. Just like during the election, no interest. I didn't know who the president was when I was her age, I was a kid with not care in the world.

We watched from the moment it all came on this morning. We watched when they got out of the limo to met the Bush family and everything. Samantha and I really enjoyed it and I was suprised at how interested she was.

My oldest and I watched from about 9am EST on but I didn't grab the younger 2 until it officially started.

I think the Chief Justice's fumble was a freudian slip. Obama did vote against him at his confirmation hearing :) Bet he takes a cheat sheet next inauguration:lol:

Although we were not Obama supporters, I wanted the kids to see the "process". So we talked more about the Constitutional process, term limits, etc.

My 8 yr old realized she's really only lived with GWB as Pres. He took office before she turned 1 so he's all she remembers :)

Our ss lesson was on the oath and what it means, and I noticed the words were changed a little.

    Well, I'm still mourning Hillary.
I didn't see Oprah, where Biden's wife said something like Biden got to choose the VP job or Sec. of State, and he chose VP. She made it sound like Hillary got sloppy seconds, like an afterthought. I though it was pretty mean spirited, the way it sounded.

How sexist and superficial the coverage is by the media and such.

How many articles have there been in the last couple weeks about what Michelle Obama is wearing? Do we even know much about what Barack Obama was wearing? Isn't Michelle Obama about more than her outfit? I wish they would have some real coverage and stop acting like this is nothing more than a one person fashion show.
