So what did your student(s) learn from the Inauguration thus far?

WOW!!! That is really amazing!!!!! I only heard of one bad thing happening, an elderly lady got hit by a subway train, but they aren't sure it was even related to people trying to get into the city on the subway.. at least last I heard they weren't sure.

except for the police presence, all the other stuff was paid for by donations made by his supporters (lots of glitzy hollywood types and other private donations)

and for spending money on stuff in the white house I think places like the oval office are not being re-modeled they are keeping the same furniture and stuff.

You know Amy, I thought that too.. it's a huge city for crying out loud.. and it's crazy crazy crazy there.. anyone who has been there will tell you that. I can't believe we didn't hear of more mishaps that probably normally happen there but being in the public eye yesterday we would have gotten the full story on them if that makes any sense.

    Sorry Jackie!!!
I guess I totally read your words wrong, please forgive me.

As for the cost...$41 million of that $150 million was paid by contributions, that still leaves $109 million paid for by the taxpayers. All the cost on us were for the "historic" train ride ( plus sercurity for that) , all transportation for everyone ( senators, special guests, helicopters, planes, cars to and from each event all 4 days), security at each event, big screens, porta potties, etc.
I guess Bush ( several days ago, before he left office)also declared D.C a state of emergency, allowing the district to recover some costs for the event. How I don't know? Taxpayers again? ;)

I think that everything went smoothly and there were no incidents because it was such an uplifting and hopefull day for so many Americans. I think that yesterday people there felt like a family in a sense, a family with hope for a brighter future. It was a historical day that won't even happen again.

I know we all have our own opinions. Mine is that I truly enjoyed watching it all and I did feel a sense of hope and pride for our country that I have not felt in a long time. I didn't vote for him but I am behind him 100%. I pray that he leads us all in a better direction and that he pulls off what he says is possible.

I am glad I was able to share it all with my daughter and that she could see the whole thing and really understand and appreciate it.

    Bring on the tomatoes..........:)

I would also guess that the police turned a blind eye perhaps to lots of "little" things. It was probably suggested to them to offer a lot of grace to people, unless it was necessary to do otherwise. (And that isn't a negative thing, btw!)

No tomatoes here Tiff, I agree 100%... I do suddenly feel some hope.

A month or less ago, hubby's job was told to brace for the economy to hit them.. it hasn't yet, and so far they are fine... but they warned the guys to not feel to secure. I have been terrified since. I'm hoping that things turn around before we get slammed here... and yesterday definately made me feel more at ease with that hope.

My son learned how many times he can ask "Is it almost over yet?" before mommy gets mad.

Just so you will know. Pres. Obama did not stumble over his words, the oath was stated incorrectly to him. So, Obama waited for it to be corrected. He wanted to say the correct Oath of Office. I would have also!
Also (from another post) Pres. Obama became the President at 12:00 Noon (in the Constitution)...they were running late so Joe Biden was not president for a few minutes in between the VP and Pres. oaths. Obama was officially already the President even before the was sworn it.
