if you think pets go to heaven?

I ask because our beloved two year old Princess kitty passed away last night. She was healthy, we raised her from a four day old orphan on a bottle and she really stole our hearts.

Friday night she seemed not like herself so we watched her. She just didn't feel like playing the silly games that she normally plays, she still ate and drank as usual and ran around. I was thinking she had another fur ball in her tummy. Saturday morning she was definitely different, she wasn't trying to wake us up, and she was laying down.

We took her to the vet and sat outside and waited for them to open at 9am because we wanted her to be seen right away. The vet took a chest x-ray and called it listacia pneumonia, he said it was not serious, just something cats get and gave us antibiotics. She was only an indoor kitty.

Yesterday morning she was worse so we called the vet again and he met us down there. She had turned lethargic by about 3pm even though we had been giving her water every hour and offering her food. The vet took a blood sample and came back to give us terrible news. The reason her gums were no longer pink is because she was anemic and he was thinking it was an autoimmune disorder which was destroying her red blood cells which carry oxygen.

He gave her a shot of another antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory while I was holding her. She was breathing hard before we got her to the vet and then she got really bad. She kept looking up at me with those beautiful green eyes like she was saying, "Help me grandma".

Long story short. They put her in the oxygen chamber to bring up her red blood cell count to stabilize her, we were still there as I didn't have a good feeling about her condition because she seemed to be in so much distress. One hour and 45 minutes later my precious Princess passed away in my arms, the vet tried to re-vive her but she didn't respond.

Today has been an incredibly sad day for all of us, especially hard on me because I keep replaying in my mind all of last week to make sure that I didn't miss anything. We took her to the vet as soon as she was showing signs but I just miss her and love her and want to see her perched up on her cat tree again. I just can't stop crying.

Do you feel there is a cat heaven?
What do you think happens when pets pass away? I am so overcome with sadness that I can't see beyond my sadness to find any peace. kwim?

(((HUGS))) It is soooo hard to lose a pet! The first time I went through it, I was 18 and watched our family dog get caught in a coon trap and there was nothing I could do. I'm now 45 and it still hits me from time to time how hard that day was. Try not to second-guess yourself! I'm terrible that way and it makes it harder. Maybe if you plan a celebration of life ceremony for her it might help.

Losing a pet is always hard, especially in your case where she was young and in seemingly good health. I do believe that pets are in heaven waiting for their human friends to catch up with them. :) I know others do not agree and that is ok, but I like to think that our animal friends are up there too.

    Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so sorry! It is hard to get over the loss of a pet.

I DO believe that animals go to heaven. I know many don't, but I am sure that they do.

I also was thinking of "Rainbow Bridge". It brings tears to my eyes every time I read it as somebody sent me to their site when we had to put our 11 year old kitty down 3 years ago. She was one of my own children and I held her as she was put to sleep. OH gosh, I am crying again. Breath! Anyway, my personal believe is that our Heavenly Father loves us so much that he will allow us to have our favorite pets with us in Heaven. :) I cannot wait to see my sweet kitty again!

I am sorry. Isn't it rotten how those furry little creatures worm their way into your hearts?! Ok, I know it isn't rotten, but when they leave us it sure is! I've always been told that Billy Graham's answer to a little girl who asked if her dog would be in heaven was, "If it makes you happier, than yes." He meant that since we are so important to God, if having our pet with us was important to us, it would be done.

Rainbow bridge is a wonderful I read it alot last year when we lost our little Lucky and Katie yes they do go to heaven, no one will change my mind no amount of tomatoes throwing will change my mind. I do believe they go. She will be waiting for you with those big green eyes saying Grandma I am fine.
Days seem to be hard but they do get easy, with the help of the wonderful ladies here it did get easier for me...
Katie, just think of all the good times you had with her and yes cry, it's the best thing for you, don't hold it in... We are here for you come and cry as much as you need.. and remember some day you will hold her again...

    Thank you for your support.

I am having such a tough time with my baby Princess passing away. This morning has been especially hard with the guys at work and my little Princess not following me around. I actually got up this morning and said, "Meow, meow" for her to come and get her treat.

I pulled up her pics up on the computer to get the image of her passing away in my arms out of my head. She looked up at me like she was asking me for help and I failed her.

I was going to share the Rainbow Bridge poem as well. You gave your cat everything she needed for a full and enriching life. You can have done more than that.

I am so sorry for your loss.

    Praying for strength Katie!

I think one of the reasons we do not have pets is I would not be able to handle losing one.

God says we will have all we need in Heaven. He says the lion will lie down with the lamb.

I have always believed that this means our pets are in heaven. I know others disagree but it's been said if it is important to you then it's important to God.

We lost our sweet Nikki (lab/dalmation mix) of 11 years last fall. She had sudden onset liver cancer. She and Cole were babies together. It broke my heart but I think DH misses her more than I do. He keeps saying we need a little girl.

I asked him to wait for God to find us a new little girl doggie and some of our dear friends from church have a lab that just had puppies. We saw the pictures and knew God has one of those in mind for us.

I am so sorry you lost your kitty. You were doing everything possible for her and I know it was a comfort to her to be in your arms.

Well, I'm not Christian & don't believe in Heaven... so maybe it's not my place to comment ...

~ But what comes to my mind is a Heaven w/o animals. Picture it. Do you really think God would make Heaven so dull?

    I kinda doubt it.

Laja, just out of curiosity, what does your faith believe in with regard to beloved pets passing away?

I just keep thinking that there has to be something good for her after she passed. She blessed us for two years and two months and we are so very thankful for her being in our lives.

While I don't know if pets go to Heaven, I would like to believe God shows them mercy, because they can't be saved like humans can. You never know, Katie- my Sparky might right now be giving your Princess a bunch of baloney, like he gave our cat, Kitty! Oh, he used to pester that cat like there was no tomorrow. More than once, Sparky got a claw across his big, black nose!
I am truly sorry for your loss.
