Mosquitoes are an issue around here. The local govt. sprays for mosquitoes but have not yet so they are numerous and fierce. I just stepped outside and between my three cats, they had a total of 27 on them not including the mosquitoes swarming around them and those biting me.

What do you use for mosquitoes? I can't use anything full of chemicals due to my allergies and asthma.

I sat on the lounge chair for about two minutes and received numerous bites and they are already turning into welts.

    Any thoughts?

Oh girl if you find something that works please let me know! They are horrible here! Grace and I for some reason attract them more than most people do. I can cover that child from head to toe in repealant and she still gets bit.

Well, the only thing topical that really works (that I know of) is DEET. Now if you have lots of money you want to throw at the situation I know people who have mosquito magnets and yes they really work. Your yard may not be mosquito free but it will make a drastic change.

I think we had this talk before and Avon has a product out (can't remember what its called) you put on that works well, along with a bounce in your pocket. ( I have done this and yes it works, not 100 percent but what is)
We are so dry down here nothing lives long..
the only thing that lives down here are those darn cockroaches and they are so big you could put a saddle on those babies and ride them...

    Yes, Skin So Soft!!!
The most fun we have had is a swatter. It is sold at Wal-mart, looks like a tennis racket, takes 1 AA battery, and is a blast. Buy 2. Everyone will want to do it. You know a bug zapper. This is one you can hold in your hand. My family is positively looney when it comes to this and mosquitoes. They have so much fun. If you are looking to cause them pain back - this is what you want! ;)

I heard that Listerine mouthwash keeps them away. I don't know if you put it on yourself or spray the area with it. I don't know if it works either. I don't get bothered with them often but they eat Freddy up.

I got curious and went to Snopes to see what they said about the Listerine for mosquitos. They say it doesn't work.

    Skin So Soft

Also, I just recently heard that if you stick a bounce sheet in your pocket there are a lot of bugs that will leave you alone! :D Have no idea why....

YEP! Skin-So-Soft is the best thing! Even the hunting magazines tell their macho-men to use it!

I have also read that chamomile tea (steep it, let cool, then wipe your exposed skin down with it) will repel them. I have not tried this myself.

Bounce dryer sheets. Rub it on yourself and keep one tied to your beltloop.

Never tried it, but I've always heard it works.

Have you tried regular sprays like OFF?

I've also done citronella candles and tiki torches around the area.

And the Skin So Soft works too.

maybe the new OFF clip on fan would help, it does have the chemicals but they don't go directly on your skin. THey also have a new little lantern they say is more effective than citrenella candles.

Is the Skin So Soft waterproof? Dd10 is on the swim team and got several bites last night in between events. It takes months for her bites to heal, so I really try to protect her from mosquitos. Regular OFF does not keep them all away.

Is that safe for a child? What would be the appropriate dosage for a 10yo?

It sure is. I get a liquid form and give it to my dd. If I don't they love to get her. Not any of my other kids just her. But with Vit B she is worry free for the most part. It works for real.

You should. You can make bat houses. My sis did. Then just put it a ways away from your house. Works pretty well. They eat thousands a night.
