I think you'd be happier with the higher level Calvert. Like most of them out there.....the younger grade stuff well...it's younger stuff.
Not really, Becky, cuz you'd get it sent back, you've lodged your complaint, you can go with Calvert or something for way cheaper, yet a great program, and you'd actually come out ahead in the long-run cuz you'd get your money back!
I had to send a bunch of books back to CBD...I had ordered them thinking that's what I wanted, then found other cirriculum I wanted instead. Anyway, when I went to the post office to return it, they said if I send it "media mail" it would cost much less than regular postage. I ondly had to pay under $5 to send about $60 worth of books back. I never knew they had "media mail".
wow, come to think of it that is one reason we chose Life Paks in the begining, if you dont like it y ou have like 90- days or something to send it back!
Ooooh Becky, you really have me wondering now, I was thinking about ordering their History, I really like the look of it, now you have me wondering is there going to be anything missing, there are a few others I could look at, I need Grade 3 and my grandson really want to do American History this year BJU seemed perfect. Hmmmm I guess I better go look at a few more then
Chrissy, I don't know what to say. They don't offer 'sneek peeks' at specific lessons on their site- I asked. They won't send you a sample lesson- I asked. When I ordered I based my choices on what they themselves said was important to the lessons and I skipped the rest to save money. In my case nothing was 'missing'. What they should have done was include more supposedly nonessential items in the subject kits, because the lesson calls for them. If you really like their stuff order it, but be aware you might have to improvise here and there if you get into the situation I'm in.
About sending the stuff back- even if BJUP gives me the full amount back, I'm still out whatever postage costs! They get me coming and going! Plus, I bet they charge a restocking fee IF they allow the return. Remember, they reserve the right to not take it back. Some companies charge 15% restocking fees. Burned once, that's enough.
I would call! Becky it really is worth the fee to send it back if you won't be happy or will have to spend more to compleete the lessons.
I was thinking the same thing. I feel for your situation, I know it's a total bummer starting out the year this way. BUT, I do think you should at least check into what it would cost. I can't imagine that it would be so much that it wouldn't be worth it. But I know your frustrated and just want to move on from this, so you have to do what you think is best. What does your hubby say you should do? I would probably lean more towards his solution than anything else.
Re sending the stuff back: Even if they DID charge a little restocking fee (which would stink!) and you pay to send it back (which stinks!), you'd be done with them, and wouldn't be reminded daily of it when you use the books. Then, they would send you back the money for your stuff you sent back, and when you order other stuff, it'd be MUCH cheaper, so you COULD be out ahead! See what I mean? To me it'd be good to just get it away from me and out of my hair, even if it cost me a little to do it. You get most of your money back, and other programs won't cost that much, so, imho it'd be easier to get it behind me and move forward.
I actually managed to find a site where you can see sample pages for their curriculum, it's also cheaper on there. Am I presuming right that you ordered the complete mega kit with bible? If so I know that is a heavy parcel BUT you may qualify for Media Mail, it's much cheaper than normal parcel mail, if you know the weight you can check out the cost to return on the USPS web page, It's not much consollation I know, but at least it will be off your hands and out of sight. My advice would be to bite the bullet and send it back the cheapest way possible, then forget all about it and BJU too.
Chrissy, I ordered the grade one Bible subject kit. Good for you that you found a site where you can preview.
We didn't have the Bible CD either, but just made do without. Ds isn't really into singing obscure hymns, so we skip that. Dh teaches him Bible anyway, so I haven't a clue how necessary the CD was in 1st grade. Neither dh nor ds said a word to me about needing it. Then again dh forgets to use the visuals, so I quit ordering those! Overall, I'm happy with BJUP (we've used K5-2nd and have started 3rd grade). But then, I don't order directly from them, our local (back in the States) Christian bookstore will order for us so we don't have to pay shipping and handling if we buy from the store. It is confusing to decide whether or not to order the "extras", some are really not essential. Since I live overseas (family ships the books to me), I have to order a boxed curriculum to keep things simple and I don't have the option to return. So we just make do without "extras". Becky, I do hope you are able to return the books at the lowest possible cost to you so that you can go on to buy curriculum you really like. Blessings,
I'm not sending anything back. We're starting next week and everything is here, so it's cool. Anne, you sure did 'make do' without the CD, because the lesson calls for it right away! I did go ahead and order it, but any more snags I run into I'll be improvising. I also like the BJUP stuff, but I don't like their tricks.
becky, you need to sit down and write them a letter and explain everything to them how you feel and that you don't like there tricks.
Oh, I emailed them a 'nasty-gram', Kris. I laid them out good over this, and told them point blank they are deceptive.
I got a reply where they just did a bunch of double talk, but never answered my complaint. They're a business, so they want to make all the extra sales they can. They don't care who they cheat. Lol, it's dog eat dog, Lovey. What can you do?
